La ricerca riguarda l’analisi degli elementi morfostrutturali, le strutture legate alle emissioni di fluidi ed i fenomeni di trasporto sia gravitativo che selettivo, in ambiente sommerso ed emerso, presenti nel settore del margine continentale nord-siciliano compreso tra i meridiani passanti per le isole Egadi e Cefalù, al fine di ottenere un modello evolutivo durante il Quaternario. The paleomagnetic investigation of the western Sicily Maghrebian belt has revealed since the 1970s that large clockwise (CW) rotations up to 140° with respect to the Hyblean-African foreland occurred synchronous with Tertiary shortening of the chain. The observation that rotations decrease stepwise from internal to external tectono-stratigraphic units led in the 1990s to a widely accepted model postulating that rotational thrust-sheet emplaced during forward orogenic propagation. An integrated stratigraphic study of the outcropping and buried Permian-Cenozoic deep-water carbonate successions have been performed. These successions form some of the tectonic units, mostly buried beneath the Late Neogene sedimentary cover, in the fold and thrust belt of Central Sicily. Three main successions, pertaining to the well known Lercara, Imerese and Sicanian domains, have been reconstructed on the basis of a detailed facies analysis, seismostratigraphic interpretation, biostratigraphy (mostly based on palynological data) and comparison between outcropping and subsurface deep-water sediments. L'analisi stratigrafico-strutturale condotta in un piccolo bacino infra-pliocenico nelle Madonie settentrionali (Lascari-Capo Plaja) permette di descrivere un evento tettonico sin-sedimentario. The Campi Flegrei is an active volcanic area defined by a quasi-circular depression that covers some 200 km2 of the coastal zone of SW Italy, a large part of which develops off the Naples (Pozzuoli) Bay (Fig. 1). Coral reefs represent one of the main carbonate factories that contributed to the control of the stratigraphic architecture of carbonate platforms, which had a widespread development during the late Miocene in the paleo-Mediterranean area. The late Miocene reef complexes of the Lorca Basin in southeastern Spain are composed of five mixed siliciclastic/carbonate units, middle Tortonian to early Messinian in age. The development of coral reefs probably ceased when the first evaporitic event occurred in the basin centre in the early Messinian. Il Foglio 608 "Caccamo" della Carta Geologica d'Italia in scala 1:50.000 è stato realizzato nell'ambito dl Progetto Carg con i fondi della Legge 67/88 tramite convenzione tra Servizio Geologico Nazionale (ora Ispra) e Regione Siciliana. L'area del Foglio ricade nella Provincia di Palermo e ricopre una parte della dorsale settentrionale siciliana. La carta geologica è il risultato della esecuzione di rilievi originali che hanno interessato più di due terzi dell'area e della revisione di alcuni rilievi condotti tra gli anni '80 e '90 da studiosi dell'Università di Palermo.
