Comprehensive Theoretical and Experimental Study of Short- and Long-Term Stability in a Passively Mode-Locked Solitonic Fiber Laser

We demonstrate the short- and long-term stable operation of an all-polarization-maintained Fabry–Perot cavity passively mode-locked fiber laser. The laser operates in an all-anomalous-dispersion solitonic regime. Laser stability is studied by a variety of measurements, which confirm the high stability of the laser in the temporal and spectral–both optical and electrical-domains. Pulse durations of 540 fs, period-relative time jitters of $\sim$ 0.015‰, and long-term uninterrumped operation with 0.4% variation (standard deviation) in the average output power are obtained. Application of White Mustard Bran and Flour on Bread as Natural Preservative Agents.

In this study, the antifungal activity of white mustard bran (MB), a by-product of mustard (Sinapis alba) milling, and white mustard seed flour (MF) was tested against mycotoxigenic fungi in the agar diffusion method. The results obtained were posteriorly confirmed in a quantitative test, determining the minimum concentration of extract that inhibits the fungal growth (MIC) and the minimum concentration with fungicidal activity (MFC). Since MF demonstrated no antifungal activity, the MB was stored under different temperature conditions and storage time to determine its antifungal stability. For the transition towards agricultural production systems that are less dependent on herbicides, the use of weed regulation by seed-eating carabids is of great interest. Weed seed predation by carabids is variable and occurs within a complex context of many biotic interactions. This complexity partly explains our current inability to predict levels of in-field weed regulation. Experiences in the field of Monte Carlo methods indicate that the quality of a random number generator is exceedingly significant for obtaining good results. This result has not been demonstrated in the field of evolutionary optimization, and many practitioners of the field assume that the choice of the generator is superfluous and fail to document this aspect of their algorithm. In this paper, we demonstrate empirically that the requirement of high quality generator does not hold in the case of Differential Evolution.

Attenuated total reflection Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), followed by multivariate treatment of the spectral data, was used to classify seed oils of the genus Cucurbita (pumpkins) according to their species as C. maxima, C. pepo, and C. moschata. Also, C. moschata seed oils were classified according to their genetic variety as RG, Inivit C-88, and Inivit C-2000. This study shows the frequency of seeds samples contaminated by Salmonella spp. collected randomly from local markets; on 30 black pepper sample no contaminated sample was found while Salmonella spp. was detected in 3 of 36 (8.3%) analyzed sesame samples; three different serotypes were identified: S. Montevideo, S. Stanleyville e S. Tilene. The efficacy of gamma irradiation to inactivate Salmonella Montevideo in black pepper and sesame irradiated between 1 and 5 kGy was evaluated. 3 kGy is sufficient to reduce of 3-4 log CFU/g; whereas 5 kGy have been need to reduce 5.5-6 log CFU/g for samples of black pepper and sesame. Seed germination in Sarcopoterium spinosum (L.) Spach from South-Eastern Sicily

Sarcopoterium spinosum (L.) Spach is a nanophanerophyte whose presence in Sicily is limited to the South-East of the island. A study on seed germination behaviour of seeds collected from some populations indicates low viability of seedlings which could seriously put the long-term survival of these populations at risk.
