Exhaled breath analysis for early disease detection may provide a convenient method for painless and non-invasive diagnosis. In this work, a novel, compact and easy-to-use breath analyzer platform with a modular sensing chamber and direct breath sampling unit is presented. The developed analyzer system comprises a compact, low volume, temperature-controlled sensing chamber in three modules that can host any type of resistive gas sensor arrays. Furthermore, in this study three modular breath analyzers are explicitly tested for reproducibility in a real-life breath analysis experiment with several calibration transfer (CT) techniques using transfer samples from the experiment. In order to contain the infection, the regulations require growers to control each of the vine rows and to remove the suspect vine plants. This monitoring is done on foot during the harvest and mobilizes many people during a strategic period for viticulture. The aim of this thesis was to investigate the impact of the volatile odorant fraction and the non-volatile fraction on the perception of caramel flavour. The first step focused on the analytical characterization of the volatile odorant fraction of caramel using Gas Chromatography coupled to Olfactometry (GC/O), GC/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) and heart-cutting MDGC/MS/O. Results highlighted the presence of more than one hundred compounds and demonstrated the complexity of the caramel volatile fraction. Measurement of three-dimensional mirror parameters by polarization imaging applied to catadioptric camera calibration

International audience; We present a new efficient method for calibration of cata- dioptric sensors. The method is based on an accurate measurement of the three-dimensional parameters of the mirror through polariza- tion imaging. While inserting a rotating polarizer between the cam- era and the mirror, the system is automatically calibrated without any calibration patterns. Moreover, this method permits most of the constraints related to the calibration of catadioptric systems to be relaxed. Supercontinuum generation in chalcogenide: application to gas spectroscopy in atmospheric band III

This thesis work aims to contribute to the development of new fiber sources emitting over a wide range of wavelengths in the IR, in particular to detect greenhouse gases in the mid-infrared range. Our spectroscopy results with nitrous oxide N2O and methane CH4 are obtained in band III. To achieve this, the generation of supercontinuum (SC) covering band III was made possible by using chalcogenide optical fibers, purified and free of highly toxic elements according to REACH regulations, in particular arsenic and antimony. Relationship between sensory profiles and odor-active compounds detected by Gas-Chromatography olfactometry

Cheese flavour has been widely studied and key-aroma compounds identified. However the strategies involved were mostly correlation studies between quantitative measurements of aroma compounds and either gas chromatography olfactometry (GC-O) data or sensory data. These correlations do not take in account the differences in the Stevens’ slopes relating sensory perception and concentration and perception thresholds. Determination of the adiabatic compressibility of bovine serum albumen in concentrated solution by a new ultrasonic method

Abstract New data are presented for the adiabatic compressibility of bovine serum albumen (BSA) over the temperature range 2–85°C and at pH 5, 6, 7 and 8. The relative impact of intrinsic and hydration contributions to the observed compressibility for BSA is estimated and shown to agree very well with general values for globular protein and with previous results for BSA. The compressibility manifests a maximum value in the regions where BSA is most stable, exhibiting a parabolic dependence on temperature with lowest values where it is least stable. Polymer-doped UHF RFID tag for wireless-sensing of humidity

Passive UHF RFID tags, beside item labelling, are also able to exploit capability of sensing the physical state of the tagged object as well as of the surrounding environment. Here a family of polymer-doped tags are proposed and fully characterized for the detection of ambient humidity. A sensitive chemical species based on PEDOT:PSS is used to dope a properly shaped slot carved into a folded-like patch tag.
