A Novel Approach for Faulty Sensor Detection and Data Correction in Wireless Sensor Network

2013

he main Wireless Sensor Networks purpose is represented by areas of interest monitoring. Even if the Wireless sensor network is properly initialized, errors can occur during its monitoring tasks. The present work describes an approach for detecting faulty sensors in Wireless Sensor Network and for correcting their corrupted data. The approach is based on the assumption that exist a spatio-temporal cross- correlations among sensors. Two sequential mathematical tools are used. The first stage is a probabilistic tools, namely Markov Random Field, for a two-fold sensor classification (working or damaged). The last stage is represented by the Locally Weighted Regression model, a learning techniq…

WAVEFRONT TESTER: Un nuevo laboratorio virtual para el estudio de los sensores frente de onda.

2016

[EN] We present a new virtual laboratory developed with MatlabcGUI (Graphical User Interface) used toteach di erent aberration eff ects in the "Tecnologi a de Sensores Optoelectr onicos" at "Escuela T ecnicaSuperior de Ingenier a del Diseño" of the Universitat Polit ecnica de Val encia. The objective of this lab is to provide a computer tool to study the working principle of a Shack Hartman sensor and the parameters that determine the dynamic range of the same. Some examples made with di fferent aberrations (defocus, astigmatism, coma) and for diff erent sensor con gurations are presented.

Optimal measurement setup for damage detection in piezoelectric plates

2009

[EN] An optimization of the excitation-measurement configuration is proposed for the characterization of damage in PZT-4 piezoelectric plates, from a numerical point of view. To perform such an optimization, a numerical method to determine the location and extent of defects in piezoelectric plates is developed by combining the solution of an identification inverse problem, using genetic algorithms and gradient-based methods to minimize a cost functional, and using an optimized finite element code and meshing algorithm. In addition, a semianalytical estimate of the probability of detection is developed and validated, which provides a flexible criterion to optimize the experimental design. Th…

Bias and humidity effects on the ammonia sensing of perylene derivative/lutetium bisphthalocyanine MSDI heterojunctions

2016

International audience; In this paper, we prepared and studied sensors based on Molecular Semiconductor-Doped Insulator (MSDI) heterojunctions. These original devices are built with two stacked layers of molecular materials and exhibit very specific electrical and sensing properties. We studied the properties of a MSDI composed of the perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride, PTCDA, or the fluorinated perylenebisimine derivative, C4F7-PTCDI, as n-type molecular material sublayers, and LuPc2 as a p-type semiconductor top layer. Their response to ammonia was compared to that of a resistor formed of only the top layer of the MSDI (LuPc2). Ammonia increases the current in the MSDIs whereas it causes…

Rapid Evaluation of Oxidized Fatty Acid Concentration in Virgin Olive Oils Using Metal Oxide Semiconductor Sensors and Multiple Linear Regression

2009

This works aims to set up a rapid and nondestructive method to evaluate the advanced oxidation of virgin olive oils (VOOs). An electronic nose based on an array of six metal oxide semiconductor sensors was used, jointly with multiple linear regression (MLR), to predict the oxidized fatty acid (OFA) concentration in VOO samples characterized by different oxidative status. An MLR model constructed using five predictors was able to predict OFA concentration with an average validation error of 9%.

Strain Sensing Coatings for Large Composite Structures Based on 2D MXene Nanoparticles

2021

Real-time strain monitoring of large composite structures such as wind turbine blades requires scalable, easily processable and lightweight sensors. In this study, a new type of strain-sensing coating based on 2D MXene nanoparticles was developed. A Ti3C2Tz MXene was prepared from Ti3AlC2 MAX phase using hydrochloric acid and lithium fluoride etching. Epoxy and glass fibre–reinforced composites were spray-coated using an MXene water solution. The morphology of the MXenes and the roughness of the substrate were characterised using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. MXene coatings were first investigated under various ambient conditions. The coating experienced no sign…

A novel 2,6-bis(benzoxazolyl)phenol macrocyclic chemosensor with enhanced fluorophore properties by photoinduced intramolecular proton transfer

2023

Macrocyclic ligand L, in which a 2,6-bis(2-benzoxazolyl)phenol (bis-HBO) group is incorporated in triethylenetetramine, was designed and synthesized with the aim of creating a chemosensor with high selectivity and specificity for metal cations in an aqueous environment. The availability of several proton acceptors and donors, and amine and phenol hydroxy groups, respectively, affects the keto-enol equilibrium in both the ground and excited states, and the ligand properties show dependence on the pH of the solution. L is fluorescent in the visible range, through an excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) mechanism. The results of an exhaustive characterization of L by spectrosco…

Drosophila Acquires a Long-Lasting Body-Size Memory from Visual Feedback

2019

Summary Grasping an object or crossing a trench requires the integration of information on the operating distance of our limbs with precise distance estimation. The reach of our hands and step size of our legs are learned by the visual feedback we get during our actions. This implicit knowledge of our peripersonal space is first acquired during infancy but will be continuously updated throughout our whole life [ 1 ]. In contrast, body size of holometabolous insects does not change after metamorphosis; nevertheless, they do have to learn their body reaches at least once. The body size of Drosophila imagines can vary by about 15% depending on environmental factors like food quality and temper…

''Sex Differences In Ultra-triathlon Performance At Increasing Race Distance''

2013

Ruest, Christoph Alexander | Knechtle, Beat | Knechtle, Patrizia | Rosemann, Thomas | Lepers, Romuald; International audience; ''It has been argued that women should be able to outrun men in ultra-endurance distances. The present study investigated the sex difference in overall race times and split times between elite female and male Ironman triathletes competing in Ironman Hawaii (3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling, and 42.195 km running) and Double Iron ultra-triathletes (7.6 km swimming, 360 km cycling, and 84.4 km running). Data from 20,638 athletes, including 5,163 women and 15,475 men competing in Ironman Hawaii and from 143 women and 1,252 men competing in Double Iron ultra-triathlon ra…
