Normal forms of hyperbolic logarithmic transseries

We find the normal forms of hyperbolic logarithmic transseries with respect to parabolic logarithmic normalizing changes of variables. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition on such transseries for the normal form to be linear. The normalizing transformations are obtained via fixed point theorems, and are given algorithmically, as limits of Picard sequences in appropriate topologies.

Diversification of CYCLOIDEA-like TCP genes in the basal eudicot families Fumariaceae and Papaveraceae s.str.

CYCLOIDEA-like genes belong to the TCP family of transcriptional regulators and have been shown to control different aspects of shoot development in various angiosperm lineages, including flower monosymmetry in asterids and axillary meristem growth in monocots. Genes related to the CYC gene from ANTIRRHINUM show independent duplications in both asterids and rosids. However, it remains unclear to what extent this affected the evolution of flower symmetry and shoot branching in these and other eudicot lineages. Comparison of global responses to mild deficiency and excess copper levels in Arabidopsis seedlings

[EN] Copper is an essential micronutrient in higher plants, but it is toxic in excess. The fine adjustments required to fit copper nutritional demands for optimal growth are illustrated by the diverse, severe symptoms resulting from copper deficiency and excess. Here, a differential transcriptomic analysis was done between Arabidopsis thaliana plants suffering from mild copper deficiency and those with a slight copper excess. Related haloarchaeal pleomorphic viruses contain different genome types

Archaeal viruses have been the subject of recent interest due to the diversity discovered in their virion architectures. Recently, a new group of haloarchaeal pleomorphic viruses has been discovered. It is distinctive in terms of the virion morphology and different genome types (ssDNA/dsDNA) harboured by rather closely related representatives. A Unique Group of Virus-Related, Genome-Integrating Elements Found Solely in the Bacterial Family Thermaceae and the Archaeal Family Halobacteriaceae

ABSTRACT Viruses SH1 and P23-77, infecting archaeal Haloarcula species and bacterial Thermus species, respectively, were recently designated to form a novel viral lineage. In this study, the lineage is expanded to archaeal Halomicrobium and bacterial Meiothermus species by analysis of five genome-integrated elements that share the core genes with these viruses.

mtDNA analysis of the human remains buried in the sarcophagus of Federico II

Abstract The sarcophagus containing the remains of Federico II, located in the Cathedral of Palermo (Sicily, Italy), was opened on 1998 to perform a multidisciplinary survey [1]. Next to the remains of Federico II and in close contact with them were laying two other skeletons belonging, according to historical records, to Pietro II di Aragona and to an anonymous person (“The Third Individual”), probably a woman. The bones appeared severely deteriorated. Chemical analysis performed on bone samples excluded that the bodies underwent some kind of embalming process. Arginine-rich peptides are blockers of VR-1 channels with analgesic activity

Vanilloid receptors (VRs) play a fundamental role in the transduction of peripheral tissue injury and/or inflammation responses. Molecules that antagonize VR channel activity may act as selective and potent analgesics. We report that synthetic arginine-rich hexapeptides block heterologously expressed VR-1 channels with submicromolar efficacy in a weak voltage-dependent manner, consistent with a binding site located near/at the entryway of the aqueous pore.
