Personal Social Networks of Community-Dwelling Oldest Old During the Covid-19 Pandemic—A Qualitative Study

2021

The COVID-19 pandemic and its related restrictions have affected the everyday life of older people. Advanced age is a significant predisposing factor for a more severe COVID-19 infection, increasing the risk for hospitalization and mortality. Even though restrictions have been, thus, well-grounded, they may also have had detrimental effects on the social well-being of older people. Personal networks and social activity are known protective factors against the premature decline in health and functioning, and it is widely acknowledged that social isolation increases feelings of loneliness, poor quality of life, and even the risk for diseases and disabilities among older adults. This qualitati…

HEALTHCARE QUALITY - A MANAGERIAL APPROACH

2014

Healthcare quality has been defined in different ways, depending on the dimension that the authors had in mind. Furthermore, if initially healthcare quality was defined and assessed from the specialists’ and researchers’ point of view, nowadays the importance of patient and the public opinion preferences and perspective has been recognized. Thus, the first step in assessing the quality of these services involves defining what is meant by "quality". Along these lines, this paper presents the results of a qualitative research, conducted on a sample of 16 managers, quality managers and CEOs of several clinics and hospitals, both public and private (for-profit), from Bucharest.

Spatial conflicts betweem modernizations of railway lines and natural values A case study of Poznań - Szczecin railway line

2017

One of the most intensive processes in the development of Polish transport infrastructure is currently modernizing main national railway lines. One of them is the railway line between Poznan and Szczecin. During the realization of such projects there occur conflicts in fulfilling different ecosystem functions by landscapes. On the basis of the theory of ecosystem services these conflicts should be solved, and potential projects – optimized. The study evaluates natural values of the areas adjacent to the railway line Poznań - Szczecin within a zone of 250 m, and also identifies areas with varying conflict degrees for the realization of the modernization project. The most important areas of h…

2012

Equality, continuity and adaptability. Foundations of the right of the public utilities, Rolland laws apply vigorously to the public service for electricity, where activities did not change since the advent of the « electricity fairy ». It is always about producing, transporting, distributing and supplying electricity, respecting the general interest. Nevertheless, the legal framework applicable to these activities is under a dramatic transition, stemming from the will of the European Union to create a single market for electricity. These changes incrementally drive to a shift of the public utility, basically socially oriented, to more and more demanding and diversified economic objectives.…

Current agri-environmental policies dismiss varied perceptions and discourses on management of traditional rural biotopes

2017

Traditional rural biotopes (TRBs) are threatened habitats that host significant biodiversity and several ecosystem services, and depend on active management such as low-intensity grazing. The current study explores private landowners’ decision-making on TRB management and abandonment within a social-ecological system framework. We provide insight into supporting resilience of TRB systems in the face of agricultural modernization. Using a mixed methods approach with content analysis and Q analysis, we demonstrate that TRB management fosters cultural, biological, aesthetic, and utilitarian values. These are reflected in different ways through conservationist's, profit-oriented farmer's, lands…

Vanhemmuuden ja selviytymiskykyisyyden tukeminen ohjatussa äiti–lapsi-vertaisryhmässä

2022

Rola byłych funkcjonariuszy komunistycznych służb specjalnych w cywilnym wywiadzie i kontrwywiadzie Polski i Czech w latach 1989–2018

2019

Czech civilian special services after 1989 were built by former officers of the communist services. In Poland and in the Czech Republic, at least at the beginning of the changes, participation in the services of members of the democratic opposition was symbolic. The officers of the communist services in both countries were gradually removed during subsequent reorganizations in the years 1990–2018. In the Czech Republic they have not been completely removed to this day. The Czech authorities deprived them of financial powers acquired in the service of a totalitarian system. The Polish authorities also deprived former security officers of the privileges acquired in service before systemic cha…
