Factors Influencing Clinical and Setting Pathways after Discharge from an Acute Palliative/Supportive Care Unit
2019
Aim The aim of this study was to assess the factors which influence the care pathway after discharge from an acute palliative supportive care unit (APSCU). Methods Patients' demographics, indications for admission, kind of admission, the presence of a caregiver, awareness of prognosis, data on anticancer treatments in the last 30 days, ongoing treatment (on/off or uncertain), the previous care setting, analgesic consumption, and duration of admission were recorded. The Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale (ESAS) at admission and at time of discharge (or the day before death), CAGE (cut down, annoy, guilt, eye-opener), and the Memorial Delirium Assessment Scale (MDAS), were used. At time of dis…
Point‐of‐care HCV RNA testing in the setting of DAA therapy: HCV‐FiS (HEpatitis C Virus Fingerstick Study)
2019
HCV-RNA assessment during therapy with Direct-Acting Antiviral (DAA) regimens still relies on assays requiring blood collection and transport to a specialised laboratory, which may compromise linkage to care. GeneXpert-HCV Viral Load (GXHVL) (Cepheid) is a plasma-based assay used at point of care (POC) with a sensitivity of ≤10 IU/mL, and, results available within 2 hours. Fifty-nine consecutive HCV-patients ready for DAAs treatment were enrolled. HCV-RNA was simultaneously tested using Roche TaqMan RT-PCR (venous blood sample) and GXHVL (capillary blood collected by fingerstick), at baseline (BL), week 4 (W4) of therapy, end of therapy (EOT) and week 12 of follow-up (W12FU). Both assays de…
Injectable Versus Oral First-Line Disease-Modifying Therapies: Results from the Italian MS Register
2021
AbstractThe current study aims to compare injectable and oral first-line disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) for time to first relapse, time to confirmed disability progression (CDP), and time to discontinuation using a cohort of relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients, with data extracted from the Italian MS Register. This multicenter, observational, retrospectively acquired, and propensity-adjusted cohort study utilized RRMS-naïve patients from the Italian MS Register who started either injectable or oral first-line DMTs between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2017, to evaluate the impact on disability outcomes in patients. Enrolled patients were divided into two groups, n…
Entrepreneurial competencies and motivations to enhance marketing innovation in Europe
2017
Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) country profile variables were analyzed using qualitative comparative analysis (QCA). This analysis identified which combinations of entrepreneurs’ competencies and motivations boost marketing innovation. Marketing innovation contributes to defining and reinforcing competitive advantages, goal setting, and business performance. The findings of this study can help policymakers design strategies to foster regional marketing innovation and economic growth.
Can goal setting and performance feedback enhance organizational citizenship behavior?
2008
Political Skills in Organizations: Do Personality and Reputation Play a Role?
2008
between altruistic behavior (goodwill toward co workers) and compliance behavior (attitude to ward the firm and its regulations, mission, etc.). It turned out that job satisfaction was related to formal performance and compliance behavior, but not to altruistic behavior. Job commitment was also related to formal performance. Finally, goal setting was related to formal performance and altruistic behavior but was not connected to com pliance behavior. In the second stage of the study, supervisors who had participated in earlier evaluations reas sessed employees' performance and feedback. The feedback included information about formal goal attainment as well as informal behaviors such as suppo…
Assessing the competence learning to learn: a methodological proposal
2012
The usefulness of the ICF framework in goal setting for students with autism spectrum disorder
2019
AbstractAn Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is a multi-disciplinary, team-developed plan that is required for a child receiving special education services. IEPs are tools for setting objectives that are responsive to students with special needs. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) is a hierarchical classification for human functioning and disability developed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The ICF classification can be used as a structural and conceptual instrument in goal setting. In this study the educational IEP objectives of five Finnish students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are examined within the ICF framework. The focus is i…
Post-mortem microbiology in sudden death: sampling protocols proposed in different clinical settings
2019
Abstract Background Autopsies, including minimally invasive autopsies, are a powerful tool for determination of the cause of death. When a patient dies from an infection, microbiology is crucial to identify the causative organism. Post-mortem microbiology (PMM) aims to detect unexpected infections causing sudden deaths; confirm clinically suspected but unproven infection; evaluate the efficacy of antimicrobial therapy; identify emergent pathogens; and recognize medical errors. Additionally, the analysis of the thanatomicrobiome may help to estimate the post-mortem interval. Aims The aim was to provide advice in the collection of PMM samples and to propose sampling guidelines for microbiolog…
Is there a widespread clone of Serratia marcescens producing outbreaks worldwide?
2021
[Background]: Serratia marcescens frequently causes outbreaks in healthcare settings. There are few studies using high-throughput sequencing (HTS) that analyse S. marcescens outbreaks. We present the analysis of two outbreaks in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in hospitals from the Comunitat Valenciana (CV, Spain) and the impact of using different reference genomes.
