Tool-life modelling as a stochastic process

Abstract In a previous paper [G. Galante, A. Lombardo, A. Passannanti, Proceedings of XXXVII Scientific Meeting of the Italian Statistical Society, 1994, p. 553] the Authors proposed to model cutting tool wear behaviour as a stochastic process with independent Gaussian increments plus drift. Such a model implies that the tool-life, i.e. the time to reach a fixed value of flank wear, has an inverse Gaussian probability distribution. The model has several practical and theoretical advantages. Corporate Governance: Stakeholder Value Versus Shareholder Value

Unsatisfied with the dominating shareholders point of view, that appears to be too limited to build a relevant theory of corporate governance, we propose an enlarged definition of the value which may be called, the stakeholder value. This definition and its associated measure are more suitable for the stakeholder approach to the firm and more relevant to understand the value creation and sharing mechanisms.
Gender differences in bicycle sharing system usage in the city of Valencia

Abstract Bicycle sharing systems (BSS) in cities are an environmentally friendly alternative to fossil-fuel-based transport. Among the different factors that influence its use, the scientific literature points out that there are gender differences in the frequency of trips made. The present study analysed the movements of men and women who use the BSS in the city of Valencia during weekdays. Our database contained a total of 5,300,328 trips by users over a period of 4 years. The sharing of research data in the cell & Tissue engineering area: Is it a common practice?

The availability of research data sets is an important milestone because it can enhance the dynamics of research. This study aims to analyze the PubMed Central repository to determine the availability and type of raw data sets in Cell & Tissue Engineering journals indexed in Journal Citation Reports. The number and types of files were registered. The main finding of this study is that, beyond the mandatory deposit of data in specific repositories that some journals require, the exchange of data as supplementary material in the Cell & Tissue Engineering journals is not a common practice since researchers are still reticent to do so.

From 2016 to 2018 OC OPEN CITY Research Group of Politecnico di Milano / Dastu Department was involved within the European Program MAPS (acronymous for Military Assets Public Space), part of URBACT, financially supported by the European Union. The program was leaded by the Municipality of Piacenza, as city leader of a group of 10 European cities which shared the architectural and urban topic of neglected military assets’ regeneration. Abstract At a team residency sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation in Bellagio, Italy, 10-14 April 2000 an organizational plan was conceived to create a global network of collaborating health workers and earth scientists dedicated to the development of computer-based models that can be used for improved control programs for schistosomiasis and other snail-borne diseases of medical and veterinary importance. Multi-cloud privacy preserving schemes for linear data mining

This paper presents an approach to privacy-preserving data mining that relies upon a relatively simple secret sharing scheme. Its main feature is that users, sensitive data owners, are engaged in the secret sharing operations that protect their privacy. They are grouped in independent clouds connected to a central unit, the data miner, that only manages the aggregated data of each cloud, therefore avoiding the disclosure of information belonging to single nodes. Providing efficient distribution systems for services on the last mile has become a challenging issue for logistics companies, where a trade-off between the classical approaches, attended home delivery (AHD) and usage of shared delivery locations (SDLs) has been identified.
