Abstract Seasonally formed, perennial growth increments of various organisms may possibly contain information about past environmental changes, well before instrumental measurements occurred. Such annually resolved proxy records have been mainly obtained from terrestrial archives, with a paucity of similar data originating from marine habitats. Iceland represents ideal conditions to develop both, tree ring (dendro) and bivalve shell (sclero) chronologies from adjacent sites. Abstract Size-selected anionic and dianionic gold clusters have been stored in a Penning trap and irradiated with the green light of a laser pointer. As examples of special interest, the systems Au 7 − and Au 29 2− have been chosen. In particular, Au 7 − , a small gold cluster with closed electron shell, is observed to decay into Au 6 − and Au 5 − with a decay pathway branching ratio similar to that of Au 9 + . The dianionic cluster Au 29 2− shows electron detachment upon photoexcitation. This observation is in agreement with independent experiments [Stoermer et al., Int. J. Mixed-morphology SNRs are characterized by a shell-like radio emission, a centrally peaked X-ray morphology, and by interaction with molecular clouds. Many models have been proposed to explain these peculiar remnants, but their physical origin is still unclear. The recent discovery of over-ionized (i. e. recombining) ejecta in 3 mixed-morphology SNRs has dramatically challenged all the previous models and opened up new, unexpected scenarios. I review the main properties of these remnants and their peculiar X-ray spectral properties. Millimeter wave absorption by confined acoustic modes in CdSe/CdTe core-shell quantum dots

International audience; Taking advantage of the specific core-shell charge separation structure in the CdSe/CdTe core-shell Type-II quantum dots (QDs), we experimentally observed the resonant-enhanced dipolar interaction between millimeter-wave (MMW) photons and their corresponding (l = 1) confined acoustic phonons. With proper choice of size, the absorption band can be tuned to desired frequency of MMW imaging. Exploiting this characteristic absorption, in a fiber-scanned MMW imaging system, we demonstrated the feasibility of CdSe/CdTe QDs as the contrast agents of MMW imaging.
