Different sources (epigrahical, literary, apocryphal) can be used to analyse the Christian heretical sects connected to an enkratite movement (Enkratites, Apotactites, Sakkophoroi, Hydroparastatai, Aerians), which was characterised by radical forms of self-restraint (enkrateia). Epigraphical documents are helpful in setting these communities in the rural background of late antique Anatolia (4th-5th cent. AD). This paper aims at reflecting on the role of the notion of "human dignity" with respect to slavery and new slaveries. First of all, a very brief reflection is carried out on the different legal meanings of the notion at stake in general terms (para. 2). Splitting the dynamics of large biochemical interaction networks

This article is inscribed in the general motivation of understanding the dynamics on biochemical networks including metabolic and genetic interactions. Our approach is continuous modeling by differential equations. We address the problem of the huge size of those systems. We present a mathematical tool for reducing the size of the model, master-slave synchronization, and fit it to the biochemical context.

Agency or impotence: Sicilian women in the context of captivity.

In this position paper I will put forward a small array of case studies in order to better understand the role of sicilian women in captivity related situations during the XVII-XVIIIXIX centuries, specifically how much gender influenced the practices of mediation, ransom and redemption of slaves. Those case studies constitutes part of my research work, and my aim is to test the conclusions of this paper by further archival research. I will highlight the role of sicilian women not only as captives but also in the mediation for the rescue of their relatives and in the funding of the redeeming missions. Nel 1828, a Mana in Guyana, Anne-Marie Javouhey fu l’artefice di un esperimento societario complesso, tra suggestioni del socialismo utopistico e riduzioni gesuite del XVII secolo, che sarebbe diventato un laboratorio per il riscatto degli europei emarginati e per l’emancipazione dei neri d’Africa portati nelle colonie. In 1828, in Mana, in French Guyana, Anne-Marie Javouhey was the maker of a complex society experiment, between suggestions of utopian socialism and Jesuit reductions of the seventeenth century, which would become a laboratory for the redemption of marginalized Europeans and for the emancipation of the blacks of Africa brought to the colonies.
