Credit and financial markets in the Iberian Peninsula at the end of the Middle Ages. Historiographic production and recent developments
2021
Understanding the detector behavior through Montecarlo and calibration studies in view of the SOX measurement
2015
International audience; Borexino is an unsegmented neutrino detector operating at LNGS in central Italy. The experiment has shown its performances through its unprecedented accomplishments in the solar and geoneutrino detection. These performances make it an ideal tool to accomplish a state- of-the-art experiment able to test the existence of sterile neutrinos (SOX experiment). For both the solar and the SOX analysis, a good understanding of the detector response is fundamental. Consequently, calibration campaigns with radioactive sources have been performed over the years. The calibration data are of extreme importance to develop an accurate Monte Carlo code. This code is used in all the n…

2021. gada 10. martā jau otro reizi Latvijas Universitātes 79. starptautiskajā zinātniskajā konferencē organizēta vēstures un arheoloģijas doktorantu sekcija. Iekļaujoties kopējā tēmā “Sabiedrības un indivīda veselība cauri laikam: izpētes iespējas un problemātika vēstures un arheoloģijas zinātnē”, sekcijā pieteica dalību vienpadsmit doktoranti un grāda pretendenti, savukārt atslēgas referātu pieteica LU LVI arheoloģijas pārstāvji. Farmers’ autonomous management or state regulation? The consolidation of local irrigation associations in Spain (nineteenth to twentieth centuries)
2019
AbstractThe collective management of irrigation is an essential factor in agrarian development, both present and past. However, the relationship of irrigation associations with the state remains underexplored, despite the increasingly important role played by water policies in the modern world. The present article examines this relationship in Spain over the last two centuries. Our results suggest that, first, the state played a decisive part in the emergence and evolution of irrigation associations, and this belies the assumption of the traditional origin of these institutions; second, that farmers, despite being subject to the regulatory framework, enjoyed substantial autonomy in the mana…
Saint Adalbert – the Apostle of Silesia
2017
Bishop Adalbert is known under many names but only one source refers to him as the ‘Apostle of Silesia’: a mediaeval chronicle of the Opole Dominicans. Since the II World War the chronicle is lost. The contents of the chronicle were recently reconstructed thanks to an archival research in the manuscript department of the Wrocław University Library, the National Archive in Prague and the Dominican General Archive on Aventine hill in Rome. According to the source, saint Adalbert had visited Opole about 984. In Górka (the Hill) he was supposed to christianize local society and baptize them. When he was run out of baptizing water, the fountain came to the top and lasted till the beginning of th…
Violencia y sociedad en una villa medieval : Castellón de la plana en el siglo XV
2006
On the evidence of local court rolls, this paper studies the patters of violence in a valencian small town oriented to a great extent toward agrarian activities. It was especially a structural and daily violence, that usually it was not caused by habitual criminals but by common people and even by members of the ruling group. Abuse of force usually taked place from poweful to weak (from richs to poors, from masters to serviants, from husbands to wives, from christians to muslims), so that these forms of violence reaffirmed internal hierarchies that divided local community.

Modeling the Effects of Religious Belief and Affiliation on Prosociality
2021
To what extent do supernatural beliefs, group affiliation, and social interaction produce values and behaviors that benefit others, i.e., 'prosociality'? Addressing this question involves multiple variables interacting within complex social networks that shape and constrain the beliefs and behaviors of individuals. We examine the relationships among some of these factors utilizing data from the World Values Survey to inform the construction of an Agent-Based Model. The latter was able to identify the conditions under which – and the mechanisms by which – the prosociality of simulated agents was increased or decreased within an “artificial society” designed to reflect real world parameters. …
Los dominios valencianos de la casa de Medinaceli entre los siglos XVI y XVII. El Ducado de Segorbe
2019
In the Valencian Seigniories of the House of Medinaceli, the expulsion of the Moorish had its negative effects, but not catastrophic. The repopulation impelled the concentration process of the property of the land and supposed a reorganization of the lordly regime that permitted be adapted better to the inflationary movements. The emphiteutic establishments of the properties that belongs to the Moorish originated rural communities quite homogeneous, thought gradually their internal differentiation was increased. Until the middle of XVIIIth century they were constituting typical examples of agrarian societies with a scarce degree of social mobility.

The analysis situates the different objectives, meanings and modalities of the formative process, as well as the different civic values advocated for future citizens, which went from conformity, integration, disc…
