Thermodynamic properties of N-octyl- and N-dodecylnicotinamide chlorides in water

Densities, heat capacities and enthalpies of dilution at 25°C and osmotic coefficients at 37°C were measured for N-octyl- and N-dodecylnicotinamide chlorides in water over an extended concentration region. Partial molar volumes, heat capacities, relative enthalpies and nonideal free energies and entropies at 25°C were derived as a function of the surfactant concentration. For both surfactants, plots of volumes, enthalpies and free energies vs. concentration are regular whereas those of heat capacities and entropies present anomalies at about 0.8 and 0.1m for the octyl and dodecyl compounds, respectively. A thermodynamic approach is proposed to quantitatively analyze the binding isotherms of peptides to model membranes as a function of one adjustable parameter, the actual peptide charge in solution z(p)+. The main features of this approach are a theoretical expression for the partition coefficient calculated from the molar free energies of the peptide in the aqueous and lipid phases, an equation proposed by S. Stankowski [(1991) Biophysical Journal, Vol. 60, p. 341] to evaluate the activity coefficient of the peptide in the lipid phase, and the Debye-Huckel equation that quantifies the activity coefficient of the peptide in the aqueous phase. Thermodynamic properties and conductivities of some dodecylsurfactants in water

Densities, heat capacities, enthalpies of dilution, osmotic coefficients and conductivities are reported for dodecylamine hydrochloride, dodecyldimethylammonium and dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride in water over a wide range of concentration. The last two properties were also measured for dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide. From the thermodynamic data partial molar volumes, heat capacities and relative enthalpies and nonideal free energies and entropies were derived as a function of the surfactant concentration. Abstract The coordination of Me 2 Sn(IV) 2+ to adenosine-5′-monophosphate (AMP) and the related compounds d -ribose-5-phosphate (R5P), d -glucose-1-phosphate (G1P) and d -glucose-6-phosphate (G6P) in aqueous solution was investigated by means of potentiometric titration, and 1 H-, 31 P-NMR and Mossbauer spectroscopic methods in the pH range 2–11 ( I =0.1 M NaClO 4 , 298 K). The complex of AMP and Me 2 Sn(IV) 2+ precipitated at low pH was characterised by elemental analysis, FT-IR and Mossbauer spectroscopic methods. Ischemia is the most important factor that affects organ survival during harvesting. The two-layer method (TLM) is one of several cold storage solutions that seeks to preserve organs and cells avoiding in vivo and in vitro ischemia. We compared the retrieval of beta-like elements from exocrine pancreatic cells using TLM versus University of Wisconsin (UW) solutions. Abstract A recent solid pharmaceutical form called “Dry Adsorbed Emulsion” (DAE) was characterized in morphological and structural fields. A DAE is an intricate system initiated by a water‐in‐oil emulsion including the active drug (i.e., theophylline). Chemical Properties of Element 105 in Aqueous Solution: Halide Complex Formation and Anion Exchange into Triisoctyl Amine

Studies of the halide complexation of element 105 in aqueous solution were performed on 34-s 262Ha produced in the 249Bk(18-O,5n) reaction. The 262Ha was detected by measuring the fission and alpha activities associated with its decay and the alpha decays of its daughter, 4.3-s 258Lr. Time-correlated pairs of parent and daughter alpha particles provided a unique identification of the presence of 262Ha. We have recently reported on the consecutive physisorption of anionic and cationic bipolar amphiphiles onto charged surfaces, adsorbed out of aqueous solutions [1]. Here, we extend our previous concept to multipolar compounds such as polyelectrolytes. In contrast to the bipolar amphiphile system, it is not necessary to separate single charges by a rigid unit, when the polyelectrolyte is adsorbed from sufficiently concentrated solutions. In this case the physisorbed layer does not bind with all ionic groups to the surface and exposes free ionic groups at the new film/solution interface.
