2006

New polymeric materials [M(dcno)2(H2O)2] [M = FeII (1), CoII (2)] and [M(dcno)2] [M = CuII (3), MnII (4)] with dcno– =[(NC)2CC(O)O(CH2)2OH]– = 2,2-dicyano-1-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethenolate anion have been synthesised and characterised by IR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography and magnetic measurements. In compounds 1 and 2, each organic ligand acts in a bridging mode with its two nitrogen atoms bound to two different metal ions, while in compounds 3 and 4, each organic anion acts as a μ3-bridging ligand through its two nitrogen atoms and the oxygen atom of the OH group. Each metal ion has a pseudo-octahedral trans-MN4O2 environment with four nitrogen atoms from four different organic ligands an…

Homo- and Heterobinuclear Cu2+ and Zn2+ Complexes of Ditopic Aza Scorpiand Ligands as Superoxide Dismutase Mimics

2017

Two polytopic aza-scorpiand-like ligands, 6-[7-(diaminoethyl)-3,7-diazaheptyl]-3,6,9-triaza-1-(2,6-pyridina)cyclodecaphane (L1) and 6-[6′-[3,6,9-triaza-1-(2,6-pyridina)cyclodecaphan-6-yl]-3-azahexyl]-3,6,9-triaza-1-(2,6-pyridina)cyclodecaphane (L2), have been synthesized. The acid–base behavior and Cu2+, Zn2+, and Cu2+/Zn2+ mixed coordination have been analyzed by potentiometry, cyclic voltammetry, and UV–vis spectroscopy. The resolution of the crystal structures of [Cu2L2Cl2](ClO4)2·1.67H2O (1), [Cu2HL2Br2](ClO4)3·1.5H2O (2), and [CuZnL2Cl2](ClO4)2·1.64H2O (3) shows, in agreement with the solution data, the formation of homobinuclear Cu2+/Cu2+ and heterobinuclear Cu2+/Zn2+ complexes. The m…

Low temperature optical spectroscopy of cobalt-substituted hemocyanin from Carcinus maenas

1993

In this work we report the optical absorption spectra of three cobalt-substituted derivatives of hemocyanin (He) from Carcinus maenas, in the temperature range 300–20 K. The derivatives studied are the mononuclear (Co2+)-He with a single cobalt ion in the “CuA” site, the binuclear (Co2+)2-He and the binuclear mixed metal (Co2+-Cu1+)-He. At low temperature three main bands are clearly resolved; the temperature dependence of their zeroth, first and second moments sheds light on the stereodynamic properties in the surroundings of the chromophore. Within the limits of the reported analysis, in the binuclear derivatives the motions coupled to the chromophore appear to be “essentially harmonic” i…

Removal of Pesticide Oxadixyl from an Aqueous Solution

2007

ABSTRACT The mycelium of Phomopsis helianthi (Ascomycete) was hydrolyzed with boiling NaOH to give an insoluble fraction composed of chitosan and glucans. The biomass obtained was tested as an agent for the removal of pesticides from an aqueous solution. Oxadixyl, which has a solubility in water of 3400 mg L−1, has been chosen as a hydrophilic organic contaminant model. The new, cheap material was demonstrated to recover up to 6 mg of oxadixyl per gram of adsorbent. The experimental data show an excellent correlation with the Langmuir isotherm model.

A nonstandard Volterra integral equation on time scales

2019

Abstract This paper introduces the more general result on existence, uniqueness and boundedness for solutions of nonstandard Volterra type integral equation on an arbitrary time scales. We use Lipschitz type function and the Banach’s fixed point theorem at functional space endowed with a suitable Bielecki type norm. Furthermore, it allows to get new sufficient conditions for boundedness and continuous dependence of solutions.

Overland flow generation on hillslopes of complex topography: analytical Solutions

2007

The analytical solution of the overland flow equations developed by Agnese et al. (2001; Hydrological Processes15: 3225–3238) for rectangular straight hillslopes was extended to convergent and divergent surfaces and to concave and convex profiles. Towards this aim, the conical convergent and divergent surfaces are approximated by a trapezoidal shape, and the overland flow is assumed to be always one-dimensional. A simple ‘shape factor’ accounting for both planform geometry and profile shape was introduced: for each planform geometry, a brachistochrone profile was obtained by minimizing a functional containing a slope function of the profile. Minima shape factors are associated with brachist…

Revisited mixed-value method via symmetric BEM in the substructuring approach

2012

Abstract Within the Symmetric Boundary Element Method, the mixed-value analysis is re-formulated. This analysis method contemplates the subdivision of the body into substructures having interface kinematical and mechanical quantities. For each substructure an elasticity equation, connecting weighted displacements and tractions to nodal displacements and forces of the same interface boundary and to external action vector, is introduced. The assembly of the substructures is performed through both the strong and weak regularity conditions of the displacements and tractions. We obtain the solving equations where the compatibility and the equilibrium are guaranteed in the domain Ω for the use of…

Quality of Inclusive Educational System for Work with Students with Autism Different Needs in Italy

2015

The need for realization of inclusive education, which is the basis of a sustainable education, will require new challenges in the Education System. The system used in Italy can be used as an example. Italy passed avant-garde laws concerning the integration and inclusion of special needs students into the general school system already more than thirty years ago, in the 1970s. However, even after all this time and experience, there are still unresolved problems, which testifies to the complexities of the matter. This research offers an insight into the quality of the existing Italian inclusive education system specifically in relation to students with autism. Thereby it hopes to provide educ…

2-Aminopurine non-radiative decay and emission in aqueous solution: A theoretical study

2008

Abstract The minimum energy path along the lowest-lying ππ ∗ excited state of 2-aminopurine was calculated to elucidate the mechanisms of radiationless decay and emission in water. The sequential Monte Carlo quantum mechanics approach with a multiconfigurational and perturbative description of the wave function was employed to compute the minimum, transition state, and conical intersection. It was found that the barrier in the potential energy surface to access the conical intersection funnel increases in aqueous environment, making the system prone to enlarge the emission yield. These results rationalize the observed enhancement of emission in 2-aminopurine upon increasing of the solvent p…

Helical Shift Mechanics of Rubber V-Belt Variators

2011

A very common configuration of V-belt variators for motorcycles considers the correction of the belt tensioning depending on the resistant torque by means of suitable helical-shaped tracks allowing the driven half-pulleys to close/open. The theoretical model for belt-pulley coupling is rather complex for this configuration, where one half-pulley may run in advance and the other one behind with respect to the belt, and requires the repeated numerical solution of a strongly nonlinear differential system by a sort of shooting technique, until all the operating conditions are fulfilled (angular contact extent, torque, and axial force). After solving the full equations, the present study develop…
