The cognitive processes supporting spatial navigation are considered in the context of a patient (CF) with possible very early Alzheimer's disease who presents with topographical disorientation. Her verbal memory and her recognition memory for unknown buildings, landmarks and outdoor scenes was intact, although she showed an impairment in face processing. By contrast, her navigational ability, quantitatively assessed within a small virtual reality (VR) town, was significantly impaired. Predicting the Short-Term Exchange Rate Between United State Dollar and Czech Koruna Using Hilbert-Huang Transform and Fuzzy Logic

In this paper, the combination of the Hilbert-Huang Transform, fuzzy logic and an embedding theorem is described to predict the short-term exchange rate from United States dollar to Czech Koruna. By Using the Hilbert-Huang Transform as an adaptive filter, the proposed method decreases the embedding dimension space from five (original samples) to four (de-noising samples). This dimension space provides the number of inputs to the fuzzy rule base system, which causes the number of rules, the time for training and the inference process to decrease. Experimental results indicated that this method achieves higher accuracy prediction than the direct use of original data.

Abstract Extracellular adenosine (ADO), generated from ATP or ADP through the concerted action of the ectoenzymes CD39 and CD73, elicits autocrine and paracrine effects mediated by type 1 purinergic receptors. We have tested whether the expression of CD39 and CD73 by chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells activates an adenosinergic axis affecting growth and survival. By immunohistochemistry, CD39 is widely expressed in CLL lymph nodes, whereas CD73 is restricted to proliferation centers. CD73 expression is highest on Ki-67+ CLL cells, adjacent to T lymphocytes, and is further localized to perivascular areas. In order to localize cortical areas mediating pain we now report subdural cortical potentials evoked by auditory stimulation (auditory-evoked potentials - AEPs) and by cutaneous stimulation with a laser (laser-evoked potentials - LEPs). Stimulation with the laser evokes a pure pain sensation by selective activation of nociceptors. LEPs were maximal over the inferior aspect of the central sulcus and had the same polarity on either side of the sylvian fissure. AEPs were maximal posterior to the LEP maximum and had opposite polarity on opposite sides of the sylvian fissure, consistent with the location of a known generator in the temporal operculum. Visceral artery aneurysms represent a very rare condition. The affected patients usually present as emergency secondary to the sudden rupture of the aneurysm or as an incidental finding on imaging. In this setting, gastric and gastroepiploic aneurysms account for only about 4% of all the splancnic aneurysms. Since ruptured visceral aneurysms present a high mortality, a prompt and adequate (surgical or radiological interventional) treatment is mandatory. Due to the difficulty in achieving an adequate transcatheter access in some cases the emergency laparotomy may represent the only chance for the recover of the affected patients. Forty-seven children and adolescents with brain tumors were examined by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after tumor resection. The typical changes and complications after surgery and chemotherapy, as well as the corresponding MRI findings, are discussed. Typical examples of boundary-layer lesions, tumor recurrences, hydrocephalus, porencephalic cysts, and hygromas are given.
