The Navier–Stokes equations in exterior Lipschitz domains: L -theory
2020
Abstract We show that the Stokes operator defined on L σ p ( Ω ) for an exterior Lipschitz domain Ω ⊂ R n ( n ≥ 3 ) admits maximal regularity provided that p satisfies | 1 / p − 1 / 2 | 1 / ( 2 n ) + e for some e > 0 . In particular, we prove that the negative of the Stokes operator generates a bounded analytic semigroup on L σ p ( Ω ) for such p. In addition, L p - L q -mapping properties of the Stokes semigroup and its gradient with optimal decay estimates are obtained. This enables us to prove the existence of mild solutions to the Navier–Stokes equations in the critical space L ∞ ( 0 , T ; L σ 3 ( Ω ) ) (locally in time and globally in time for small initial data).
A new hybrid method to improve the ultra-short-term prediction of LOD
2019
Accurate, short-term predictions of Earth orientation parameters (EOP) are needed for many real-time applications including precise tracking and navigation of interplanetary spacecraft, climate forecasting, and disaster prevention. Out of the EOP, the LOD (length of day), which represents the changes in the Earth’s rotation rate, is the most challenging to predict since it is largely affected by the torques associated with changes in atmospheric circulation. In this study, the combination of Copula-based analysis and singular spectrum analysis (SSA) method is introduced to improve the accuracy of the forecasted LOD. The procedure operates as follows: First, we derive the dependence structur…
A stellar flare-coronal mass ejection event revealed by X-ray plasma motions
2019
Coronal mass ejections (CMEs), often associated with flares, are the most powerful magnetic phenomena occurring on the Sun. Stars show magnetic activity levels up to 10^4 times higher, and CME effects on stellar physics and circumstellar environments are predicted to be significant. However, stellar CMEs remain observationally unexplored. Using time-resolved high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy of a stellar flare on the active star HR 9024 observed with Chandra/HETGS, we distinctly detected Doppler shifts in S XVI, Si XIV, and Mg XII lines that indicate upward and downward motions of hot plasmas (~10-25 MK) within the flaring loop, with velocity v~100-400 km/s, in agreement with a model of fl…
Local Berry curvature signatures in dichroic angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy from two-dimensional materials
2020
Orbital polarization and Berry curvature signatures are mapped out by circular dichroism in angle-resolved photoemission.
Chemical partitioning and DNA fingerprinting of some pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) varieties of different geographical origin
2019
The genus Pistacia (Anacardiaceae family) is represented by several species, of which only P. vera L. produces edible seeds (pistachio). Despite the different flavor and taste, a correct identification of pistachio varieties based on the sole phenotypic character is sometimes hard to achieve. Here we used a combination of chemical partitioning and molecular fingerprinting for the unequivocal identification of commercial pistachio seed varieties (Bronte, Kern, Kerman, Larnaka, Mateur and Mawardi) of different geographical origin. The total phenolic content was higher in the variety Bronte followed by Larnaka and Mawardi cultivars. The total anthocyanin content was higher in Bronte and Larnak…
Anthropocène, Sémiotique et Droit de l’Environnement. La remise en cause juridique des non-humains
2023
The Anthropocene is not a time of a crisis of nature, but a time of an epistemic one. That stimulates the semiotics of culture to take up the project of an archaeology of knowledge. In this article, we give some indications of how to deal with this in the discourse of environmental law. We will focus on the turning point of the 1960s and 1970s, which is very significant for environmental law. Based on a corpus including French national law, international law and European regulations, we will start by proposing a semiotic genealogy of natural spaces ; then, we will show how it leads to the reformulation of legal temporalities ; finally, we will end by evoking its repercussions on the actoria…
The Fumarate/Succinate Antiporter DcuB of Escherichia coli Is a Bifunctional Protein with Sites for Regulation of DcuS-dependent Gene Expression
2008
DcuB of Escherichia coli catalyzes C4-dicarboxylate/succinate antiport during growth by fumarate respiration. The expression of genes of fumarate respiration, including the genes for DcuB (dcuB) and fumarate reductase (frdABCD) is transcriptionally activated by C4-dicarboxylates via the DcuS-DcuR two-component system, comprising the sensor kinase DcuS, which contains a periplasmic sensing domain for C4-dicarboxylates. Deletion or inactivation of dcuB caused constitutive expression of DcuS-regulated genes in the absence of C4-dicarboxylates. The effect was specific for DcuB and not observed after inactivation of the homologous DcuA or the more distantly related DcuC transporter. Random and s…

Multiple normalized solutions for a Sobolev critical Schrödinger-Poisson-Slater equation
2021
We look for solutions to the Schr\"{o}dinger-Poisson-Slater equation $$- \Delta u + \lambda u - \gamma (|x|^{-1} * |u|^2) u - a |u|^{p-2}u = 0 \quad \text{in} \quad \mathbb{R}^3, $$ which satisfy \begin{equation*} \int_{\mathbb{R}^3}|u|^2 \, dx = c \end{equation*} for some prescribed $c>0$. Here $ u \in H^1(\mathbb{R}^3)$, $\gamma \in \mathbb{R},$ $ a \in \mathbb{R}$ and $p \in (\frac{10}{3}, 6]$. When $\gamma >0$ and $a > 0$, both in the Sobolev subcritical case $p \in (\frac{10}{3}, 6)$ and in the Sobolev critical case $p=6$, we show that there exists a $c_1>0$ such that, for any $c \in (0,c_1)$, the equation admits two solutions $u_c^+$ and $u_c^-$ which can be characterized respectively…
Lipschitz-type conditions on homogeneous Banach spaces of analytic functions
2017
Abstract In this paper we deal with Banach spaces of analytic functions X defined on the unit disk satisfying that R t f ∈ X for any t > 0 and f ∈ X , where R t f ( z ) = f ( e i t z ) . We study the space of functions in X such that ‖ P r ( D f ) ‖ X = O ( ω ( 1 − r ) 1 − r ) , r → 1 − where D f ( z ) = ∑ n = 0 ∞ ( n + 1 ) a n z n and ω is a continuous and non-decreasing weight satisfying certain mild assumptions. The space under consideration is shown to coincide with the subspace of functions in X satisfying any of the following conditions: (a) ‖ R t f − f ‖ X = O ( ω ( t ) ) , (b) ‖ P r f − f ‖ X = O ( ω ( 1 − r ) ) , (c) ‖ Δ n f ‖ X = O ( ω ( 2 − n ) ) , or (d) ‖ f − s n f ‖ X = O ( ω …
