Site effects assessment through historical and instrumental data integration

2006

ABSTRACT This work illustrates the historical data contribution to the analysis of the microtremor survey results carried out in May 2003 in the city of Palermo by the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia and the Dipartimento di Geologia e Geodesia – University of Palermo. The microtremor survey has been carried out within the project SESAME (Site EffectS assessment using AMbient Excitations) funded by the European Commission, devoted to test the effectiveness of the seismic noise, and in particular of Nakamura technique, in the site effects assessment. The Nakamura technique singles out zones characterized by a near-surface geology suitable to produce site effects, by exploiting …

Properties of Swift's intermediate bursts

2011

Based on their prompt, high-energy emission, gamma-ray bursts are usually classified into short-duration and long-duration classes. A third intermediate group has been identified on statistical grounds but its individual properties have not yet been studied in detail. Using the large sample of follow-up observations of GRBs produced during the Swift era we analyze the individual characteristics of this group. We find that intermediate bursts are significantly different from short GRBs but share many properties with long bursts, probably pointing to a common progenitor type. However, we find that intermediate bursts are significantly dimmer and have on average lower redshifts. Based on their…

Up-wind difference approximation and singularity formation for a slow erosion model

2020

We consider a model for a granular flow in the slow erosion limit introduced in [31]. We propose an up-wind numerical scheme for this problem and show that the approximate solutions generated by the scheme converge to the unique entropy solution. Numerical examples are also presented showing the reliability of the scheme. We study also the finite time singularity formation for the model with the singularity tracking method, and we characterize the singularities as shocks in the solution.

Complete 1H, 13C{1H}, and 31P NMR Spectral Parameters of Some Pyrophosphates

2017

The 1H, 13C{1H}, and 31P NMR spectral parameters of some pyrophosphates were determined in CDCl3. The most complicated 1H spectrum can be solved fully only as (A3MN)R6XX′R6′(MNA3)′, where R6 (= ―N(CH3)2) is coupled only to phosphorus (X). Second-order coupling between phosphorus was found and solved with iterative analysis. A signal shape of one of the carbon resonance cannot be explained only with couplings. Explanation for exceptional shape was searched from molecular modeling results. peerReviewed

Spectrophotometric determination of phthalocyanines Part II. Phthalocyanines stable in concentrated sulfuric acid

2001
