Mathematical Evaluation of Mössbauer Spectra

1978

As in many other spectroscopic methods, it is necessary in Mossbauer spectroscopy to determine the positions, intensities or areas of the absorption and emission lines as accurately as possible. In the case of poorly resolved or complex hyperfine spectra due to different chemical species or several lattice sites in the sample it is not possible to evaluate the Mossbauer spectra just by hand. In addition, often one is faced with the problem of taking into account cosine smearing effects (Sec. 4.2), thick absorbers associated with the calculation of the transmission integral (Sec. 3.5), magnetic or electric relaxation (Sec. 6.7), or delayed coincidence Mossbauer measurements (Sec. 3.5), which…

Alkyloxy modified pyrene fluorophores with tunable photophysical and crystalline properties

2019

Novel alkyloxy modified 2,7-di-tert-butyl-4,5,9,10-tetra(arylethynyl)pyrenes were prepared through a straightforward Sonogashira coupling approach. Optical properties such as quantum yields and absorption/emission spectra of the fluorophores were investigated by UV/Vis and fluorescence measurements. Aggregation induced excimer formation of the chromophores in polar solvents and in the solid state was proved by the presence of a characteristic bathochromically shifted emission band and a decrease of the emission capability. These results strongly indicate the unexpected observation that the excimer formation of adjacent pyrene rings is not prevented by the introduction of bulky tert-butyl su…

Detection of security relevant substances within the cooperative project SAFE XUV

2008

The objective of this project funded by the German BMBF was to show that security relevant substances can be detected in complex matrices at low concentrations using single photon ionization ion trap mass spectrometry (SPI-ITMS). The advantage of such a soft ionization technique is a reduction of unwanted fragment ions in mass spectra allowing identification of signals from complex matrices and enabling MS/MS capability. The MS/MS studies permit low false-positive and false-negative rates. Additionally, the accumulation of the ions in the ion trap decreases the detection limit. To obtain low detection limits the ionization potentials (IPs) of the relevant substances have to be below the IPs…

Some observations on the fluorometric determination of metallic elements in micellar media

1989

Abstract Experimental evidence is given allowing us to interpret why the detection limits obtained in micellar media are higher than those expected according to fluorescence enhancements for the niobium-lumogallion-tartrate system in the presence of different nonionic surfactants. The residual fluorescence of the surfactant solution and the competitive interaction with micelles between complexes and free ligands were studied. Near the critical micelle concentration of surfactants, remarkable changes in the emission spectra were observed in the case of both complex and free ligand solutions, which indicate the existence of interactions between the chemical system and surfactant monomers and …

Superatomic S2 Silver Clusters Stabilized by a Thiolate–Phosphine Monolayer: Insight into Electronic and Optical Properties of Ag14(SC6H3F2)12(PPh3)8…

2014

The electronic structure of two recently crystallographically solved, thiolate–phosphine protected silver clusters Ag14 and Ag16 are analyzed via density functional theory (DFT) and their optical excitations are analyzed from time-dependent DFT perturbation theory. Both clusters can be characterized as having the S2 free-electron configuration in the metal core, which is the first time such a configuration is confirmed for structurally known ligand-protected noble metal clusters. However, their different core shapes and ligand layer induce significantly different optical spectra. Performance of gradient-corrected DFT functionals is discussed and it is shown that the asymptotically correct L…

Rotational spectrum and equilibrium structure of silanethione, H2SiS

2008

Unsubstituted silanethione, H(2)Si=S, has been characterized experimentally for the first time by means of rotational spectroscopy; the equilibrium structure of this fundamental molecule has been evaluated through a combination of experimental data from a total of ten isotopologues and results of high-level coupled-cluster calculations.

Mass spectra of chlorinated aromatics formed in pulp bleaching: I—chlorinated catechols

1983

The fragmentation of chlorinated guaiacols (2-methoxyphenols) on electron impact has been studied. The most common fragmentation processes are interpreted and in some cases the small differences between spectra of positional isomers are explained. In addition to the well-known alkyl-oxygen fission (loss of methyl radical), metastable ion studies and deuterium labelling have indicated several new fragmentation pathways. The most characteristic are the formation of [MCH3HCl]+ and [MCH3Cl]+· ions. In general, however, the spectra of positional isomers are shown to be very similar.

Fluctuations and elastic properties of lipid membranes in the gel Lβ′ state: a coarse-grained Monte Carlo study

2010

We study the stress distribution profiles and the height and thickness fluctuations of lipid membranes in the gel L-beta ' state by Monte Carlo simulations of a generic coarse-grained model for lipid membranes, which reproduces many known properties of dipalmitoylphosphatidyncholine (DPPC) bilayers. The results are related to the corresponding properties of fluid membranes, and to theoretical predictions for crystalline and hexatic membranes. One striking observation is that the spontaneous curvature of the monolayers changes sign from the fluid to the gel phase. In the gel-phase, the long-wavelength height fluctuations are suppressed, and the fluctuation spectrum is highly anisotropic. In …
