Cross-Cultural Validity of the Physical Self-Description Questionnaire: Comparison of Factor Structures in Australia, Spain, and Turkey

Abstract We evaluated the cross-cultural generalizability of the factor structure for the Physical Self-Description Questionnaire (PSDQ) using confirmatory factor analysis. The factor structure was reasonably invariant over large samples of responses by Australian, Spanish, and Turkish students. Consistent with a priori predictions, the factor structures based on Australian and Spanish high school students were somewhat more similar to each other than to those based on Turkish university students, but these differences were small. The aim of this work is to examine the pentafactorial validity of the AF5 Self-Concept Questionnaire in Spanish and Chilean young adults. From the responses of a total of 4,383 young adults aged 17 to 22 years (1,918 Spanish, 44%, and 2,465 Chilean, 56%) it was analyzed the reliability of the instrument, the compared validity of the 5 oblique factor model proposed by the authors versus the unifactorial and the orthogonal alternative models, and was studied the invariance of one Chilean sample. Abstract Background Daily smoking adolescents are a public health problem as they are more likely to become adult smokers and to develop smoking-related health problems later on in their lives. Methods The study is part of the four-yearly, cross-national Health Behaviour in School-aged Children study, a school-based survey on a nationally representative sample using a standardised methodology. Aim Satisfaction with life is a measure of protection in older adults. There lies the importance of providing quality instruments. The aim of the study was to evaluate the invariance of the life satisfaction scale (SWLS) in two samples of older adults in Spain and Peru. Method The participants were 857 older adults in Spain (mean age = 68.23 years, SD = 5.93) and 336 older adults in Peru (average age = 72.42, SD = 7.07). Multidimensional scaling and stock location assignment in a warehouse: an application

By means of an application, in the present paper, the suitability of a multivariate statistical methodology, as multidimensional scaling (MDS), to solve an optimization problem is shown. In particular, considering the stock location assignment problem in the warehouse of a supermarket chain, the solution gained by applying MDS to a set of seven variables is compared with the one obtainable by considering the usual techniques applied in this context. Phase Behavior of Active Swimmers in Depletants: Molecular Dynamics and Integral Equation Theory

We study the structure and phase behavior of a binary mixture where one of the components is self-propelling in nature. The inter-particle interactions in the system were taken from the Asakura-Oosawa model, for colloid-polymer mixtures, for which the phase diagram is known. In the current model version the colloid particles were made active using the Vicsek model for self-propelling particles. The resultant active system was studied by molecular dynamics methods and integral equation theory. Both methods produce results consistent with each other and demonstrate that the Vicsek model based activity facilitates phase separation, thus broadening the coexistence region.
