The interplay between maternal homework involvement, task-avoidance, and achievement among adolescents.

This study examined three aspects of maternal homework involvement (i.e., the quantity, quality, and source of initiative) and their direct and indirect associations with adolescents’ task-avoidant behavior in homework situations and academic achievement. The sample consisted of Finnish mothers and their adolescents who were transitioning from primary to lower secondary school. Cross-lagged relationships between home learning environment and academic achievement in Chinese

Abstract We examined (a) the cross-lagged relationships between the home learning environment and academic achievement in Chinese, and (b) whether parents’ socioeconomic status (SES) and child's gender moderate the relations. One hundred seventy-seven Chinese children were followed from Grade 1 to Grade 2 and were assessed on reading and mathematics. Their parents also responded to a questionnaire assessing the frequency of engaging in different home literacy and numeracy activities. Results showed that reading ability in Grade 1 negatively predicted informal home literacy activities in Grade 2. Identitātes dimensiju un orientācijas uz nākotni saistība 18 – 25 gadus veciem jauniešiem.

Bakalaura pētījumā tika izvirzīts jautājums: Vai pastāv sakarība starp identitātes dimensijām un orientāciju uz nākotni un tās komponentēm? Pētījumā piedalījās 53 respondenti jaunieši vecumā no 18 – 25 gadiem, respondentu vidējais vecums M = 22,49 (SD = 2,22). 73% no respondentiem bija sievietes un 27% vīriešu. No aptaujātajiem respondentiem 42% ir ieguvuši augstāko izglītību, 4% ir precējušies un 9% no respondentu ir bērni. Hepatocellular cancer cell lines, Hep-3B and Hep-G2 display the pleiotropic response to resveratrol and berberine

Purpose Human carcinoma cells with different p53 status exposed to a combination of bioactive substances, resveratrol and berberine, revealed different responses in cell viability via p53-dependant apoptosis pathway activation. Materials and methods Using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium (MTS) assay, we investigated various and opposing effects in hepatocellular carcinoma cells, Hep-G2 and Hep-3B with different p53-status. More Time Children Spend in Nature During Preschool Is Associated with a Greater Sense of Responsibility for Nature : A Study in Finland

Nature connectedness is an important factor underlying proenvironmental behavior. Only little is known on the aspects that influence nature connectedness in younger children. The study participants included 150 children at mean age of 6.5 years. Eighty-five of them attended nature-preschool that offers on average 13.1 h/week, and 65 of them typical preschool that offers on average 1.7 h/week, of their education in nature. Unpacking the link between family socioeconomic status and civic engagement during the transition to adulthood: Do work values play a role?

We investigated whether the link between family-of-origin socioeconomic status (SES) and civic engagement in young adulthood is mediated by youth’s work values, i.e., the desired characteristics of their current or future jobs. We used data from a Finnish study: 2004 (age 16–18, NT1 = 1,301); 2011 (age 23–25, N T2 = 1,096); and 2014 (age 25–27, NT3 = 1,138). A lower family SES in 2004 was negatively related to youth’s civic engagement in 2014. Lower family SES predicted the importance that youth attached to extrinsic job rewards (e.g., good pay) in 2011, but not the importance of intrinsic job rewards (e.g., learning opportunities). Nuorten koulussa kokeman sosiaalisen tuen yhteys subjektiiviseen sosiaaliseen asemaan ja liikkumiseen

Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää nuorten kouluyhteisössä syntyvien kokemusten ja liikkumisen välisiä yhteyksiä. Kokemuksellisuutta tarkastellaan nuorten kokeman sosiaalisen tuen sekä subjektiivisen sosiaalisen aseman näkökulmista. Sosiaalinen tuki koostuu yläkoululaisten kokemuksista opettajan ja oppilaan välisistä suhteista, oppilaiden keskinäisistä suhteista sekä vanhemmilta saadusta tuesta. Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin sähköisenä kyselynä keväällä 2015, ja tutkimukseen osallistui 2 026 yläkoululaista.
