Ball milling and AlB2 addition effects on the hydrogen sorption properties of the CaH2 + MgB2 system
2010
Among the borohydrides proposed for solid state hydrogen storage,Ca(BH4)2 is particularly interesting because of its favourable thermodynamics and relatively cheap price.Composite systems, whereother species are present in addition to the borohydride, show some advantages in hydrogen sorption properties with respect to the borohydrides alone, despite a reduction of the theoretical storage capacity. We have investigated the milling time influence on the sorption properties of the CaH2 +MgB2 system from which Ca(BH4)2 and MgH2 can be synthesized by hydrogen absorption process.Manometric and calorimetric measurements showed better kinetics forlong time milled samples. We found that the total subst…

Investigating the Heartbeat-evoked cortical responses through parametric Time-Varying Information Measures
2022
Recent studies showed that the information coming from the heart is constantly processed by the brain. One index to study this process is the heartbeat-evoked potential (HEP), represented by an event-related potential component related to the cortical processing of the heartbeat. In this study we propose an approach to investigate the heartbeat-evoked EEG responses, based on quantifying the changes induced by the heartbeat on the predictability of the brain dynamics. The regularity of EEG signals is assessed through the Information Storage (IS) computed with a time-varying approach able to derive the temporal profile of the measure for each time point. Results show a modulation in the regul…
Cambio climático y sustentabilidad económica y social: implicaciones sobre el bienestar social
2008
This article puts forward an explanation of climate change within the context of global change. Climate change can be seen as the spearhead; as a manifestation of the increasing unsustainability of planet Earth. We consider some of the effects of this change, examining its uneven impact on developed and under-developed countries. We then put forward various proposals of how to deal with climate change, highlighting Socolow’s theory in particular. Lastly, we move on to the debate raised by climate change, its impact and possible strategic steps to remedy the situation within the context of environmental sustainability. This will probably lead to a new economic, social and environmental parad…
First operational experience of HIE-ISOLDE
2016
The High Intensity and Energy ISOLDE project (HIE-ISOLDE)* is a major upgrade of the ISOLDE facility at CERN. The energy range of the post-accelerator will be extended from 2.85 MeV/u to 9.3 MeV/u for beams with A/q = 4.5 (and to 14.3 MeV/u for A/q = 2.5) once all the cryomodules of the superconducting accelerator are in place. The project has been divided into different phases, the first of which (phase 1a) finished in October 2015 after the hardware and beam commissioning were completed**. The physics campaign followed with the delivery of both radioactive and stable beams to two different experimental stations. The characteristics of the beams (energies, intensities, time structure and b…
