Between 1925 and 1930, fascism dealt a strong blow to the mafia, in fact Sicilian cosche had to go on about a hundred of trials. By analysing the trial papers, this work shows how the cosche of the Palermo district were structured in the Twenties. One important thing that comes out is that the mafioso control is a sort of legacy passed on through several generations of the same family or group.

The contribution aims to retrace some particularly significant moments of the commitment of Nilde Iotti in promoting women’s rights. Iotti, a founding mother of the Republic and prominent figure of the Italian Communist Party (PCI), fought for the democratization of Italian society through women’s emancipation. This essay focuses on Iotti’s public role and political action from the election to the Constituent Assembly (1946) until the late Seventies. This work aims to read the practices of modern politics in the conflict between the center and the periphery. The emergence of moments of conflict between the local political level and the national level allows us to observe the way of acting, the choices, the actions, the languages of the actors who move along these two dimensions. We will try to show that local situations are not exceptions to a general and abstract, universally valid and accepted norm, but more likely it is exceptional and should be considered only as an emergent effect of the irreducible multiplicity of local contexts.
