Ostensori architettonici in Sicilia tra suggestioni iberiche e rinascimentali

Through the analysis of six architectural monstrances housed in churches and museums in Sicily, the formal and compositional languages that, between Iberian and Renaissance suggestions, characterize these masterpieces of sacred art are analyzed. They are small silver architectures, produced between the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries, which are influenced by the Catalan Gothic influences and the Italian Renaissance, in a peculiar Sicilian synthesis.

Michele Cometa’s book analyzes the fifteenth-century fresco Il Trionfo della Morte (The Triumph of Death), conceived for the courtyard of the Ospedale Grande e Nuovo of Palazzo Sclafani in Palermo and currently housed in the Regional Gallery of Palazzo Abatellis, in the same city. The approach is inspired by Visual Culture studies: there are historical reconstructions and references to previous critical analyses of the pictorial work, but the fresco is interpreted in a new way, considering its narrative structure, thematic clusters as well as the allegories, the medieval topoi and the different cultural influences present in Sicily at the time.

Vito D'Anna pittore rococò tra sacro e profano

Si è indagata all’interno di questo studio l’operosità di Vito D’Anna, celebre esponente della pittura siciliana del Settecento. Pertanto, si è esaminata in maniera aggiornata, la sua complessiva produzione artistica, a partire dalle iniziali opere di gusto tardobarocco fino a quelle più mature, legate al Rococò. Peraltro, in alcune di esse vi sono tracce neoclassiche. Degna di nota è l’abilità di alcuni religiosi francescani nell’eseguire opere ornate con fili e frammenti di paglia, materiale povero per eccellenza, facilmente flessibile e dal colore simile all’oro. In this paper we present a bibliographical list of works published between 2002 and 2015 which have focused on women and gender in ancient Near Eastern studies. In addition to the list, we also provide an introduction in which we consider the relationship between women’s studies and gender studies and present a selection of the trends and theoretical positions which have emerged since the late 1980s either inside the framework of gender studies, or in closely related fields such as queer studies, postcolonial studies and feminist epistemologies – the predominant trends in the time span covered by this overview.
