After an examination of the motivations behind the writing of 'Origins of analitical philosophy,' the discussion moves on to themes which are central to Dummett's book such as: the priority thesis, the linguistic turn, the comparison between some important aspects of Frege's and Husserl's philosophies, the relationship between language and thought. The Prologue ends with an examination of the Dummettian concept of proto-thought, as a thought whose vehicle is not language, which seems to open the way for the use of the empirical sciences in the construction of a theory of thought. This paper aims at reconstructing the critical debate about mimesis which occurs in the platonic literature of the twentieth century to show how much it influenced the thesis of contemporary Hermeneutics. This article describes the recent reception of Giovanni Gentile and his doctrine of actualism, describing the philosopher's rehabilitation as a major Italian thinker and actualism as a provocative account of socially situated consciousness. The discussion then turns to the future of Gentile studies, focusing on ways in which the ahistorical methods of analytic philosophy might help restore actualism and its author to their proper place in the philosophical canon.
