L’ascesa economica del ramo della famiglia Notarbartolo che conseguirà il titolo di duchi di Villarosa si caratterizza per la rapidità e l’incisività d’azione del capostipite: Francesco Notarbartolo Alvarez d’Eván. Muovendosi con abilità nel quadro del sistema economico siciliano della seconda metà del Seicento, Francesco riuscì in breve tempo a costruire il nucleo del patrimonio fondiario della famiglia: nel volgere di un ventennio, tra gli anni ’70 e gli anni ’90 del XVII secolo, creò un patrimonio di feudi compatto e geograficamente ben definito, che si estendeva tra Castrogiovanni e Santa Caterina. Application of the SWAP model to predict impact of climate change on soil water balance in a Sicilian vineyard

In Sicily, the increasing scarcity of quality water is leading to irrigation with saline water in soils having a considerable susceptibility to salinization and degradation. In this paper, water flow and solute transport in a Sicilian irrigated soil was simulated by using the SWAP model, and the simulated results compared to measured values of soil moisture and salinity. The investigation was carried out in a vineyard located in Sicily (Mazara del Vallo, Trapani Province) within the framework of the Project: Evolution of cropping systems as affected by climate change (CLIMESCO). Understand and optimize mental strategies during motor learning

Motor imagery-based motor learning, also known as mental practice, can improve motor performance. However, questions remain concerning the mechanisms involved in mental practice, at the neurophysiological and behavioral levels. In a first study, we show an increase of short-interval intracortical inhibition during motor imagery, supporting the hypothesis that motor imagery induces the generation of an inhibited motor command. Obesity is associated with changes in the resolution of acute inflammation that contribute to the clinical complications. The exact mechanisms underlying unresolved inflammation in obesity are not fully understood. Adipocyte death leads to pro-inflammatory adipose tissue macrophages, stimulating additional adipocyte apoptosis. Thus, a complex and tightly regulated process to inhibit inflammation and maintain homeostasis after adipocyte apoptosis is needed to maintain health. Perception of university students on active teaching-learning strategies.

El objetivo del estudio es analizar la percepción del alumnado sobre estrategias de enseñanza-aprendizaje activas. Participaron 96 estudiantes del grado de Enfermería de la Universidad Católica de Valencia, quienes recibieron parte del temario siguiendo las diferentes estrategias activas analizadas. Tras la aplicación de cada estrategia se administró un cuestionario para conocer la valoración que los alumnos hacían de cada una de ellas y si éstas habían ayudado a entender la materia. Los resultados señalan que el aprendizaje basado en problemas y el aprendizaje entre iguales son las mejores valoradas por el alumnado. The paper aims to increase our understanding of the relationships between firm strategies, the design of institutional contexts on behalf of public agents, and the stimulation of diffused entrepreneurship within the economic system. In particular, it analyzes the way in which firm patent portfolio management strategies may systematically hinder the emergence of entrepreneurial endeavours within the economic system and, on this basis, critically discusses how the acknowledgement of these interactions should influence the design of public policies at the economic system level.
