Predictive Factors of Response to Sunitinib in Imatinib-Resistant Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GISTs): A Multi-Institutional Study
2019
Imatinib 400 mg is the standard of care for medical treatment of advanced GISTs. In the majority of cases, however, GISTs eventually develop resistance to imatinib. The optimal second line treatment has not been established yet and imatinib dose escalation (800 mg) or sunitinib represent two feasible options. The objective of this retrospective, multi-institutional, study is to analyze the validity of several parameters as possible predictive factors of response to sunitinib after imatinib failure. We reviewed 128 metastatic GISTs treated with sunitinib between January 2007 to June 2017. Primary tumour site, metastatic site, c-KIT/PDGFR-α mutational status, PET-FDG status and type…
Testicular tumors in childhood: a national report
1993
The authors report preliminary data of an Italian multicentric, retrospective study of primary testicular tumors (PTT) in childhood involving 20 Italian departments of pediatric surgery. Forty cases of PTT were observed during a 10-year period (1977–1987), with yolk-sac tumors being the most frequent (45%). Most testicular tumors were first perceived as a unilateral testicular mass. Scrotal ultrasonography represents the main diagnostic investigation, together with serum marker levels.
Sarcoma de estroma endometrial. Estudio clinicopatológico e inmunofenotípico de 5 casos
2007

Differentiation of Effector/Memory Vδ2 T Cells and Migratory Routes in Lymph Nodes or Inflammatory Sites
2003
Vδ2 T lymphocytes recognize nonpeptidic antigens without presentation by MHC molecules and mount both immediate effector functions and memory responses after microbial infection. However, how Vδ2 T cells mediate different facets of a memory response remains unknown. Here, we show that the expression of CD45RA and CD27 antigens defines four subsets of human Vδ2 T cells with distinctive compartmentalization routes. Naive CD45RA+CD27+ and memory CD45RA−CD27+ cells express lymph node homing receptors, abound in lymph nodes, and lack immediate effector functions. Conversely, memory CD45RA−CD27− and terminally differentiated CD45RA+CD27− cells, which express receptors for homing to inflamed tissu…
Editorial: Mesenchymal Stromal Cell Therapy for Regenerative Medicine
2022
Mesenchymal stromal/stem cell (MSC) therapies are increasingly explored as novel regenerative and immunomodulatory approaches to treat or prevent diseases (Pittenger et al., 2019; Hmadcha et al., 2020; Moll et al., 2020b; Ringdén et al., 2022). These cells exhibit potent paracrine properties that can modulate host immune responses, lower inflammation, and orchestrate endogenous tissue repair, at both the local and the systemic level through multiple pathways (Singer and Caplan, 2011; Doorn et al., 2012). MSCs possess tropism toward damaged and inflamed tissues, where they can engraft short-term and exert their therapeutic effects by both direct and indirect mechanisms (Doorn et al., 2012; G…
Induced Pluripotent Mesenchymal Stromal Cell Clones Retain Donor-derived Differences in DNA Methylation Profiles
2012
Reprogramming of somatic cells into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) is an epigenetic phenomenon. It has been suggested that iPSC retain some tissue-specific memory whereas little is known about interindividual epigenetic variation. We have reprogrammed mesenchymal stromal cells from human bone marrow (iP-MSC) and compared their DNA methylation profiles with initial MSC and embryonic stem cells (ESCs) using high-density DNA methylation arrays covering more than 450,000 CpG sites. Overall, DNA methylation patterns of iP-MSC and ESC were similar whereas some CpG sites revealed highly significant differences, which were not related to parental MSC. Furthermore, hypermethylation in iP-MSC…
Intraocular pressure measurements during flap preparation using 2 femtosecond lasers and 1 microkeratome in human donor eyes
2012
Purpose To evaluate and compare intraocular pressures (IOPs) during flap preparations performed using 2 femtosecond lasers and a mechanical microkeratome in human donor globes. Setting University Medical Center Mainz, Mainz, and Euroeyes Clinic Stuttgart, Stuttgart, Germany. Design Experimental study. Methods A cannula was inserted through the optic nerve in human globes. The IOP was obtained continuously during flap preparation using the 60 kHz Intralase femtosecond laser, the 200 kHz Visumax femtosecond laser, or the Amadeus II microkeratome. For each experiment, a normal lamellar flap preparation (regular procedure) and a worst-case procedure (femtosecond laser interface was pressed agai…
