The selection of the elementary analysis windows in continuous noise recordings for optimal estimation of the mean horizontal‐to‐vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) curve is generally performed by visual inspection of HVSR curves considered as functions of time. Starting from full‐length records, HVSR curves are determined in consecutive time windows of appropriate lengths. Time windows with HVSR curves that are anomalous on the basis of a simple visual inspection are generally ignored in the computation of the average HVSR curve. Aerobic respiration could serve as an indicator of stability and maturity of the treated sewage sludge (SS). The bearing capacity of footings on sand with a weak layer

Minor details of the ground, such as thin weak layers, shear bands and slickensided surfaces, can substantially affect the behaviour of soil–footing and other geotechnical systems, despite their seeming insignificance. In this paper, the influence of the presence of a thin horizontal weak layer on the ultimate bearing capacity of a strip footing on dense sand is investigated by single-gravity tests on small-scale physical models of the soil–footing system. The test results show that the weak layer strongly influences both the failure mechanism and the ultimate bearing capacity if its depth is lower than about four times the footing width. The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, has emphasized the idea that the state should be a leading actor in post-Communist reconstruction. This chapter argues that constitutionalism, in the narrow meaning of the rule of law in the political process, coexists with a mildly authoritarian, state-oriented presidential regime such as the Russian Federation under Vladimir Putin.
