Optimization of a LC method for the enantioseparation of a non-competitive glutamate receptor antagonist, by experimental design methodology
2006
Abstract The aim of this work was to obtain the direct optical resolution of a new glutamate receptor antagonist (( p -chloro)1-aryl-6,7,-dimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline, PS3), by liquid chromatography on Chiralcel ® OD column. A response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to optimize the enantiomeric separation of the racemate with the lowest number of experiments; in particular, a face-centred design (FCD) was applied to evaluate the influence of critical parameters on the experimental response. Furthermore, in order to find the best compromise between several responses, a multicriteria decision-making approach, the Derringer's desirability function, was successful to simulta…
Finte Pietre. Architettura dell'apparire e conservazione dei valori culturali
2012
THE ROLE OF THERMOGRAPHY IN THE NON-DESTRUCTIVE EVALUATION OF HISTORICAL ARCHITECTURAL SURFACES. Some observation about the method and its purpose
2014
Infrared-Thermography (IRT) has become a supporting tool for the investigation of historical structures and facades. Using the non-destructive testing method for the detection can give a profound knowledge about the current status of the object and the state of decay, about different kinds of discontinuities at historical facades, of construction details and of thermal bridges in the facades. Different case studies of thermographic surveys on some Sicilian monuments are presented and discussed to illustrate how the method can offer applicable information about the investigated objects and demonstrate its reasonable integration into conservation projects.
Quel "mezzo pollice" di materia
2012
This chapter includes a reflection on the role of architectural surfaces in monuments and ancient contexts. In attempt to trace the evolution of the concept of res…
Cloning of a novel putative G-protein-coupled receptor (NLR) which is expressed in neuronal and lymphatic tissue.
1993
AbstractA novel G-protein-coupled receptor was isolated from mouse and rat neuronal and lymphatic tissues. The amino acid sequence of the rat receptor (rNLR) shows an overall homology of 80% to a recently cloned receptor from Burkitt's lymphoma cells (BLR1) which is exclusively expressed in lymphatic tissues [(1992) Eur. J. Immunol. 22, 2795]. Much less homology between rNLR and BLR1 was observed at the N-terminus (about 40%), whereas rNLR and the mouse homologue mNLR show 92% amino acid identity. Northern blot analysis of NLR revealed a predominant 5.5 kb mRNA species in various brain regions and neuronal cell lines, whereas in the spleen a 3 kb transcript is predominant. This distribution…
Mutation Analysis Identifies GUCY2D as the Major Gene Responsible for Autosomal Dominant Progressive Cone Degeneration
2008
PURPOSE. Heterozygous mutations in the GUCY2D gene, which encodes the membrane-bound retinal guanylyl cyclase-1 protein (RetGC-1), have been shown to cause autosomal dominant inherited cone degeneration and cone–rod degeneration (adCD, adCRD). The present study was a comprehensive screening of the GUCY2D gene in 27 adCD and adCRD unrelated families of these rare disorders. METHODS. Mutation analysis was performed by direct sequencing as well as PCR and subsequent restriction length polymorphism analysis (PCR/RFLP). Haplotype analysis was performed in selected patients by using microsatellite markers. RESULTS. GUCY2D gene mutations were identified in 11 (40%) of 27 patients, and all mutation…
Riemann surfaces and Teichmüller theory
2017
Riemannin pinnat ja Teichmüller-teoriaa. Tämän työn päämääränä on määritellä Riemannin pintojen Teichmüller-avaruudet sekä tutkia niiden geometrisia ominaisuuksia. Ensin työssä kehitetään peiteavaruuksien ja toimintojen teoriaa, jota sovelletaan Möbius-kuvauksista koostuviin ryhmiin. Tämän jälkeen kvasikonformaalikuvaukset määritellään Riemannin pinnoille ja niiden yhteyttä yhdesti yhtenäisten Riemannin avaruuksien kvasikonformikuvauksiin tutkitaan. Näitä tietoja sekä yhdesti yhtenäisten Riemannin pintojen uniformisaatiolausetta hyödyntämällä todistetaan yleisten Riemannin pintojen uniformisaatiolause. Tämä tulos liittää pinnat Möbius-kuvauksien toimintoihin yhdesti yhtenäisillä Riemannin p…
A Maximizing Hydraulic Radius (MHR) method for defining cross-section limits in rills and ephemeral gullies
2021
Abstract In this paper, a new method for determining the cross-section limits in rills and ephemeral gullies is proposed. This method is based on the estimate of the actual depth ha of each cross-section, which is the particular depth distinguishing the channel from the hillslope areas. The analysis showed that the actual depth corresponds to a particular bank slope sta occurring for the maximum value of the hydraulic radius R. The method was applied using a volumetric approach for calculating the hydraulic radius as the ratio between the volume of the whole investigated channel and its boundary lateral surface. The value of the bank slope st was derived by the DEM of the whole channel late…
Current-induced domain wall motion in nanoscale ferromagnetic elements
2011
The manipulation of a magnetic domain wall (DW) by a spin polarized current in ferromagnetic nanowires has attracted tremendous interest during the last years due to fundamental questions in the fields of spin dependent transport phenomena and magnetization dynamics but also due to promising applications, such as DW based magnetic memory concepts and logic devices. We comprehensively review recent developments in the field of geometrically confined domain walls and in particular current induced DW dynamics. We focus on the influence of the magnetic and electronic transport properties of the materials on the spin transfer effect in DWs. After considering the different DW structures in ferrom…
Evaluation of apical preparations performed with ultrasonic diamond and stainless steel tips at different intensities using a scanning electron micro…
2011
Objective: The objective of our study is to analyse (with the help of scanning electron microscopes) the quality of the dental root surface and the appearance of dental cracks after performing apical preparations using two diffe-rent types of ultrasonic tips. Study design: We used 32 single-rooted teeth that underwent a root canal and apical resection. Afterwards, the teeth were divided into 4 groups of 8 teeth each, with preparations of the apical cavities in the following manner: Group 1: stainless steel ultrasonic tip at 33KHz. Group 2: stainless steel ultrasonic tip at 30KHz. Group 3: diamond ultrasonic tip at 30KHz. Group 4: diamond ultrasonic tip at 33 KHz. The quality of the root sur…
