Fluxon dynamics by microwave surface resistance measurements in MgB2
2003
Field-induced variations of the microwave surface resistance, Rs(H), have been investigated in high-density ceramic MgB2. At low temperatures, several peculiarities of the Rs(H) curves cannot be justified in the framework of models reported in the literature. We suggest that they are ascribable to the unconventional vortex structure in MgB2, related to the presence of two gaps. On the contrary, the results near Tc can be accounted for by the Coffey and Clem model, with fluxons moving in the flux-flow regime, provided that the anisotropy of the upper critical field is taken into due account.
Magnetoresistance in the HF Metal at Zero Temperature
2014
In this chapter we consider the paradoxical behavior of the residual resistivity \(\rho _0\) of HF metals in magnetic fields and under pressure. Our consideration is based on the idea of flattening of the single-particle spectrum \(\varepsilon (\mathbf{p})\) that profoundly effects on the specific heat \(C\), thermal expansion coefficient \(\alpha \) and magnetic susceptibility \(\chi \) in the normal state, the jump of \(C\) at the point of superconducting phase transition etc. We show that FC associated with flat bands contributes to the residual resistivity \(\rho _0\), while the application of the magnetic field or pressure to the system with a flat band removes the flat band and leads …
Intensity of theB1gphonon Raman scattering inYBa2Cu3O7: Comparison of normal and superconducting states
1995
We compare theoretically the intensity of the ${\mathit{B}}_{1\mathit{g}}$ phonon Raman scattering in ${\mathrm{YBa}}_{2}$${\mathrm{Cu}}_{3}$${\mathrm{O}}_{7}$ above and below the superconducting transition temperature ${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{c}}$. Our analysis shows that a considerable enhancement of the scattering intensity in the superconducting state that is observed experimentally can be caused by an extension of the number of intermediate electronic states near the Fermi surface that participate in the Raman process.
Size-dependent enhancement of superconductivity in Al and Sn nanowires: shape-resonance effect
2006
A shape-dependent superconducting resonance can be expected when an energy level associated with the transverse motion in a wire passes through the Fermi surface. We show that the recently observed width-dependent increase of ${T}_{c}$ in Al and Sn nanowires is a consequence of this shape-resonance effect.
Anomalous magnetic hysteresis in the microwave surface resistance of MgB2 superconductor
2007
We report experimental results of the field-induced variations of the microwave surface resistance in samples of MgB2, produced by different methods. By sweeping the DC magnetic field at increasing and decreasing values, we have detected a magnetic hysteresis that can be ascribed to the different magnetic induction, due to the critical state of the fluxon lattice. The hysteresis observed in the bulk samples has an unusual shape, which cannot be justified in the framework of the critical-state models.
Field-induced suppression of the pi-band superconductivity and magnetic hysteresis in the microwave surface resistance of MgB_2 at temperatures near …
2009
We report on the magnetic-field-induced variations of the microwave surface resistance, R_s, in a polycrystalline MgB_2 sample, at different values of temperature. We have detected a magnetic hysteresis in R_s, which exhibits an unexpected plateau on decreasing the DC magnetic field below a certain value. In particular, at temperatures near T_c the hysteresis manifests itself only through the presence of the plateau. Although we do not quantitatively justify the anomalous shape of the magnetic hysteresis, we show that the results obtained in the reversible region of the R_s(H) curve can be quite well accounted for by supposing that, in this range of magnetic field, the pi-gap is almost supp…
Magnetic hysteresis in the microwave surface resistance of Nb samples in the critical state
2006
We discuss the hysteretic behavior of the field-induced variations of the microwave surface resistance in superconductors in the critical state. Measurements have been performed in a bulk sample of Nb and a powdered one at different values of the temperature. We discuss a model, based on the Coffey and Clem theory, in which we take into account the flux distribution inside the sample, due to the critical state. The experimental results are justified quantitatively in the framework of our model. We show that by fitting the experimental data it is possible to determine the value of the critical current density and its field dependence.

G1-Blend between a Differentiable Superquadric of Revolution and a Plane or a Sphere Using Dupin Cyclides
2008
In this article, we present a method to perform G1-continuous blends between a differentiable superquadric of revolution and a plane or a sphere using Dupin cyclides. These blends are patches delimited by four lines of curvature. They allow to avoid parameterization problems that may occur when parametric surfaces are used. Rational quadratic Bezier curves are used to approximate the principal circles of the Dupin cyclide blends and thus a complex 3D problem is now reduced to a simpler 2D problem. We present the necessary conditions to be satisfied to create the blending patches and illustrate our approach by a number of superellipsoid/plane and superellipsoid/sphere blending examples.
