Influence of initial treatments of aluminium on the morphological features of electrochemically formed alumina membranes

Abstract The fabrication of alumina membranes by electrochemical oxidation of annealed aluminium was investigated. Porous layers were grown in 0.4 M H3PO4 at −1 and 5 °C at different anodising times. The morphology of the outer surface was found to be dependent on temperature and charge density, with both determining the extent of chemical dissolution of the anodic oxide. The inner-surface morphology was found to depend on the applied voltage only. The chemical dissolution rate of anodic oxide grown on annealed aluminium was found to be lower than that formed on unannealed aluminium under otherwise identical conditions. The Effect of Electronic Properties of Anodized and Hard Anodized Ti and Ti6Al4V on Their Reactivity in Simulated Body Fluid

The electronic properties of barrier and porous layers on Ti and Ti6Al4V were studied. Barrier anodic oxides grown to 40 V on Ti and on Ti6Al4V are both n-type semiconductors with a band gap of 3.3 eV and 3.4 eV respectively, in agreement with the formation of amorphous TiO2. Anodizing to 200 V at 20 mA cm−2 in calcium acetate and β-glycerol phosphate disodium pentahydrate leads to the formation of Ca and P containing porous films with a photoelectrochemical behaviour dependent on the metallic substrate. The conventional aircraft paint scheme for corrosion protection of aluminum structures is partly based on application of a primer containing inhibitors. In such coatings, release of the inhibiting species enables fast healing of a bare metal surface after a mechanical damage of the protective layers. The thermal responsive behavior of adsorbed layers of diblock copolymers of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAM) and poly((3-acrylamidopropyl)trimethylammonium chloride) (PAMPTMA(+)) with γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) at the solid/liquid interface has been investigated using three in situ techniques: null ellipsometry, quartz–crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring, and neutron reflectometry. Nontemplate Synthesis of CH3NH3PbBr3 Perovskite Nanoparticles

To date, there is no example in the literature of free, nanometer-sized, organolead halide CH3NH3PbBr3 perovskites. We report here the preparation of 6 nm-sized nanoparticles of this type by a simple and fast method based on the use of an ammonium bromide with a medium-sized chain that keeps the nanoparticles dispersed in a wide range of organic solvents. These nanoparticles can be maintained stable in the solid state as well as in concentrated solutions for more than three months, without requiring a mesoporous material. Optical gain, spontaneous and stimulated emission of surface plasmon polaritons in confined plasmonic waveguide

International audience; We develop a theoretical model to compute the local density of states in a confined plasmonic waveguide. Based on this model, we derive a simple formula with a clear physical interpretation for the lifetime modification of emitters embedded in the waveguide. The gain distribution within the active medium is then computed following the formalism developed in a recent work [Phys. Rev. B 78, 161401 (2008)], by taking rigorously into account the pump irradiance and emitters lifetime modifications in the system. We finally apply this formalism to describe gain–assisted propagation in a dielectric–loaded surface plasmon polariton waveguide.

Surfactants are often employed to stabilize protein formulations and reduce the risk of aggregation.
