Technologies for the exploitation of renewable energies have been dramatically increasing in number, complexity and type of source adopted. Among the others, the use of saline gradient power is one of the latest emerging possibilities, related to the use of the osmotic/chemical potential energy of concentrated saline solutions. Nowadays, the fate of this renewable energy source is intrinsically linked to the development of the pressure retarded osmosis and reverse electrodialysis technologies. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a very distressing experience for children and requires a special effort of adjustment. Therefore, it seems to be crucial to explore coping resources for the experienced risk condition. In this sense, the study focuses on coping strategies and locus of control in children with ALL during the treatment phase, and on their possible relation. The correlation between children and maternal coping strategies is also investigated. Il capitolo parte dal considerare la nuova centralità che le città hanno assunto nella fase attuale del capitalismo e le ragioni di tale centralità. Vengono poi ripercorsi e descritti alcuni modelli teorici di riferimento con cui la letteratura ha studiato il ruolo delle città nei processi di crescita e in particolare viene fatto riferimento al modello di città creativa, a quello di città globale e al modello di città europea. Il capitolo infine prende in considerazione esempi di ricerca applicata che utilizzano i modelli teorici presentati e discussi.

Abstract This chapter is devoted to the description of a new class of heat engines based on salinity gradient technology and able to convert low-grade heat into power. The salinity gradient power (SGP) process is employed within a closed loop composed of two different sections: (i) the SGP unit devoted to the energy production, and (ii) a regeneration unit fed by the solutions exiting from the SGP unit and able to restore the initial concentration, thus regenerating the salinity gradient.
