Reverse electrodialysis heat engine for sustainable power production

Abstract Reverse Electrodialysis Heat Engine (REDHE) is a promising technology to convert waste heat at temperatures lower than 100 °C into electric power. In the present work an overview of the possible regeneration methods is presented and the technological challenges for the development of the RED Heat Engine (REDHE) are identified. Se si esclude l’offerta della grande distribuzione organizzata, spesso localizzata nelle zone urbane periferiche, è possibile ammettere che nell’immaginario collettivo la massima espressione dell’offerta commerciale di un centro urbano corrisponda a una o a poche vie di una città. La scelta di focalizzare lo studio su alcune strade rappresentative della situazione commerciale di un centro urbano non è dunque casuale o peregrina. Per la Sicilia questo forte nesso è del tutto evidente nelle tre Città metropolitane di Palermo, Catania e Messina.

Abstract Suspensions of solid particles into liquids within industrial stirred tanks are frequently carried out at an impeller speed lower than the minimum required for complete suspension conditions. This choice allows power savings which usually overcome the drawback of a smaller particle-liquid interfacial area. The availability of raw mineral resources containing elements included in the Critical Raw Materials (CRMs) list is a growing concern for the European Union. Sea mining has been identified as a promising secondary source. In particular, brines obtained in solar saltworks (bitterns) contain relevant amounts of valuable CRMs such as Mg(II), B(III), other alkaline/alkaline earth metals (Rb(I), Cs(I), Sr(II)) and transition/post-transition elements (Co(II), Ga(III), Ge(IV)).
