Tremadocian Stylophoran Echinoderms From The Taebaeksan Basin, Korea.
2006
15 pages; International audience; Abundant isolated elements of cornute and mitrate stylophorans were recovered from the upper Tremadocian Tumugol Formation in the Taebaeksan Basin, Korea. Cornute skeletal elements comprise a diverse assemblage of marginals and brachials of cothurnocystid affinities, suggesting the presence of no fewer than four different species. Mitrate remains include numerous isolated adorals, marginals, and aulacophoral plates with typical peltocystidan morphologies. Two adorals are identified as Anatifopsis sp., while all the others are attributable to A. cocaban. However, the two previously documented peltocystidans of Korea, A. cocaban and A. truncata, are sufficien…
Detection of multiple species of humanParagonimusfrom Mexico using morphological data and molecular barcodes
2013
Paragonimus mexicanus is the causal agent of human paragonimiasis in several countries of the Americas. It is considered to be the only species of the genus present in Mexico, where it is responsible for human infection. Through the investigation of P. mexicanus specimens from several places throughout Mexico, we provide morphological, molecular and geographical evidence that strongly suggests the presence of at least three species from this genus in Mexico. These results raise questions regarding the diagnosis, treatment, prophylaxis and control of human paragonimiasis in Mexico. We also provide a brief discussion regarding biodiversity inventories and the convenience of providing molecula…
NEW LIGHT ON PARASOREX DEPERETI (ERINACEOMORPHA: ERINACEIDAE: GALERICINI) FROM THE LATE MESSINIAN (MN 13) OF THE MONTICINO QUARRY (BRISIGHELLA, FAENZ…
2019
A large-sized species of Parasorex is common in the MN 13 mammal assemblages from the uppermost Messinian sandy-marly fissure fillings within the Gessoso Solfifera Formation at Brisighella (Northern Apennine). This erinaceid has been classified as Galerix sp. in the first papers on the Brisighella fauna. Later, it was described in detail in an unpublished Ph.D. dissertation by Fanfani (1999), who referred it to Galerix depereti. Van den Hoek Ostende (2001) included G. depereti in the genus Parasorex, Parasorex depereti has been described by Crochet (1986) on scarce material from a few Early Pliocene (MN 14–15) localities of southern France and Spain. Parasorex cf. depereti has been reported…
An unusual conchorhynch from the upper Maastrichtian of the southeast Netherlands and the distinction between nautiloid and ammonoid conchorhynchs (M…
2022
Abstract A single, atypical conchorhynch (calcitic tip of a cephalopod lower jaw), recovered from the uppermost Meerssen Member (Maastricht Formation, upper Maastrichtian) at the former ENCI-HeidelbergCement Group quarry, south of Maastricht, is described as a new parataxon, Conchorhynchus illustris sp. nov. The specimen can be differentiated from all previous conchorhynch records on account of its large size, elongated shape and, in particular, of the structure of its apical part which is smooth and forwardly elongated. During the Late Cretaceous, conchorhynchs formed part of the jaw apparatus of nautilids and of two ammonoid suborders, Phylloceratina and Lytoceratina. Since conchorhynchs …
Inhibitory effects of extracts from the marine alga Caulerpa taxifolia and of toxin from Caulerpa racemosa on multixenobiotic resistance in the marin…
1998
The invasive growth of the introduced green alga Caulerpa taxifolia, already affecting the richness and diversity of the littoral ecosystems, has become a major ecological problem in the Mediterranean Sea. Previously, we demonstrated that the water pollutant tributyltin induces apoptosis in tissue of the marine sponge Geodia cydonium at concentrations of 3 μM and higher. Here we show that exposure of G. cydonium to low (non-toxic) concentrations of Caulerpa extract or purified caulerpin (10 μg/ml) together with low doses of tributyltin (1 μM; non-toxic), results in a strong apoptotic effect. Evidence is presented that the enhancement of toxicity of tributyltin by Caulerpa extract is at leas…
Line Identification of Atomic and Ionic Spectra of Holmium in the Near-UV. II. Spectra of Ho ii and Ho iii
2017
Fourier Transform spectra of holmium (Ho) in the UV spectral range from 31,530 to 25,000 cm−1 (317 to 400 nm) have been investigated, particularly focusing on the ionic lines. The distinction between the different degrees of ionization (I, II, and III) is based on differences in signal-to-noise ratios from two Ho spectra, which have been measured with different buffer gases, i.e., neon and argon. Based on 106 known Ho ii and 126 known Ho iii energy levels, 97 lines could be classified as transitions of singly ionized Ho and 9 lines could be classified as transitions of doubly ionized Ho. Of the 97 Ho ii lines, 6 have not been listed in the extant literature. Another 215 lines have been assi…
Checklist of the vascular flora of Sicily
2010
ABSTRACT. – Checklist of the vascular flora of Sicily. – On the basis of updated literature data the authors have prepared a checklist of the vascular flora of Sicily. This list subdivided in Pteridophyta, Pinophyta and Magnoliophyta, is arranged in alphabetical order. It includes 3252 specific and infraspecific taxa both native and naturalized. This list reports biologic forms and subforms and the chorotypes. Three name validations and two new combinations are also given. This list is available in electronic format at (http://www.herbmedit.org).
PVN priekšnodokļa atskaitīšanas juridiskās īpatnības
2015
Phytochemical Profile and Antioxidant Activity of the Aerial Part Extracts from Matthiola incana subsp. rupestris and subsp. pulchella (Brassicaceae)…
2021
As part of a project aimed at investigating the Matthiola taxa endemic to Sicily (Italy), this study focused on Matthiola incana, an edible species used in the traditional medicine of various countries. Herein, the characterization of phenolic and volatile compounds, the antioxidant capacity in vitro (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazil (DPPH), reducing power and Fe2+ chelating activity assays) and the toxicity test (Artemia salina lethality bioassay) of the hydroalcoholic extracts from the aerial parts of M. incana subsp. rupestris from Mt. Pellegrino (Palermo) and Mt. Erice (Trapani), and of M. incana subsp. pulchella are reported. The results are compared with those previously shown for M. inc…
