Se on ainut tapa, jolla sanojen ja puhunnosten ääntämisasuun voidaan viitata ilman tulkinnanvaraa, ja lisäksi yksi harvoista visuaalisista apuvälineistä, jotka soveltuvat erityisesti ääntämisen opetukseen.
