VLPZ: The Vehicular Location Privacy Zone

2016

International audience; One of the key challenges in the success of vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) is to consider the location privacy of drivers. Although, the pseudonym changing approach is suggested by standardization development organizations such as IEEE and ETSI, the development of an effective pseudonym changing strategy is still an open issue. The existing pseudonym changing strategies are either not effective to protect against the pseudonyms linking attacks or can have a negative impact on the VANETs’ applications. To address these issues, this paper proposes a new pseudonym changing strategy based on the Vehicular Location Privacy Zone (VLPZ), which is a roadside infrastructu…

Nonlinear Complex PCA for spatio-temporal analysis of global soil moisture

2020

Soil moisture (SM) is a key state variable of the hydrological cycle, needed to monitor the effects of a changing climate on natural resources. Soil moisture is highly variable in space and time, presenting seasonalities, anomalies and long-term trends, but also, and important nonlinear behaviours. Here, we introduce a novel fast and nonlinear complex PCA method to analyze the spatio-temporal patterns of the Earth's surface SM. We use global SM estimates acquired during the period 2010-2017 by ESA's SMOS mission. Our approach unveils both time and space modes, trends and periodicities unlike standard PCA decompositions. Results show the distribution of the total SM variance among its differ…

Importance of the Window Function Choice for the Predictive Modelling of Memristors

2021

Window functions are widely employed in memristor models to restrict the changes of the internal state variables to specified intervals. Here, we show that the actual choice of window function is of significant importance for the predictive modelling of memristors. Using a recently formulated theory of memristor attractors, we demonstrate that whether stable fixed points exist depends on the type of window function used in the model. Our main findings are formulated in terms of two memristor attractor theorems, which apply to broad classes of memristor models. As an example of our findings, we predict the existence of stable fixed points in Biolek window function memristors and their absenc…

Joint Graph Learning and Signal Recovery via Kalman Filter for Multivariate Auto-Regressive Processes

2018

In this paper, an adaptive Kalman filter algorithm is proposed for simultaneous graph topology learning and graph signal recovery from noisy time series. Each time series corresponds to one node of the graph and underlying graph edges express the causality among nodes. We assume that graph signals are generated via a multivariate auto-regressive processes (MAR), generated by an innovation noise and graph weight matrices. Then we relate the state transition matrix of Kalman filter to the graph weight matrices since both of them can play the role of signal propagation and transition. Our proposed Kalman filter for MAR processes, called KF-MAR, runs three main steps; prediction, update, and le…

Modelling and Simulation of Ego-Noise of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

2020

In this paper, we develop a simulation model for the ego-noise of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The ego-noise is composed of spike noise and background noise. The spike noise is modelled by a finite sum of sinusoids, while the background noise is modelled by a coloured Gaussian stationary process. The main property of our model is that it only depends on physical characteristics of the UAV and it does not need real-time audio inputs to be developed. This model is very useful for training novel noise cancelling algorithms and for evaluating their performance. To validate the proposed model, we compare the statistical properties of the ego-noise simulated using our model with actual ego-no…

Blind Source Separation Based on Joint Diagonalization in R: The Packages JADE and BSSasymp

2017

Blind source separation (BSS) is a well-known signal processing tool which is used to solve practical data analysis problems in various fields of science. In BSS, we assume that the observed data consists of linear mixtures of latent variables. The mixing system and the distributions of the latent variables are unknown. The aim is to find an estimate of an unmixing matrix which then transforms the observed data back to latent sources. In this paper we present the R packages JADE and BSSasymp. The package JADE offers several BSS methods which are based on joint diagonalization. Package BSSasymp contains functions for computing the asymptotic covariance matrices as well as their data-based es…

Extended differential geometric LARS for high-dimensional GLMs with general dispersion parameter

2018

A large class of modeling and prediction problems involves outcomes that belong to an exponential family distribution. Generalized linear models (GLMs) are a standard way of dealing with such situations. Even in high-dimensional feature spaces GLMs can be extended to deal with such situations. Penalized inference approaches, such as the $$\ell _1$$ or SCAD, or extensions of least angle regression, such as dgLARS, have been proposed to deal with GLMs with high-dimensional feature spaces. Although the theory underlying these methods is in principle generic, the implementation has remained restricted to dispersion-free models, such as the Poisson and logistic regression models. The aim of this…

Local Asymptotic Normality for Shape and Periodicity in the Drift of a Time Inhomogeneous Diffusion

2017

We consider a one-dimensional diffusion whose drift contains a deterministic periodic signal with unknown periodicity $T$ and carrying some unknown $d$-dimensional shape parameter $\theta$. We prove Local Asymptotic Normality (LAN) jointly in $\theta$ and $T$ for the statistical experiment arising from continuous observation of this diffusion. The local scale turns out to be $n^{-1/2}$ for the shape parameter and $n^{-3/2}$ for the periodicity which generalizes known results about LAN when either $\theta$ or $T$ is assumed to be known.

Affine-invariant rank tests for multivariate independence in independent component models

2016

We consider the problem of testing for multivariate independence in independent component (IC) models. Under a symmetry assumption, we develop parametric and nonparametric (signed-rank) tests. Unlike in independent component analysis (ICA), we allow for the singular cases involving more than one Gaussian independent component. The proposed rank tests are based on componentwise signed ranks, à la Puri and Sen. Unlike the Puri and Sen tests, however, our tests (i) are affine-invariant and (ii) are, for adequately chosen scores, locally and asymptotically optimal (in the Le Cam sense) at prespecified densities. Asymptotic local powers and asymptotic relative efficiencies with respect to Wilks’…

Hard-Core Thinnings of Germ‒Grain Models with Power-Law Grain Sizes

2013

Random sets with long-range dependence can be generated using a Boolean model with power-law grain sizes. We study thinnings of such Boolean models which have the hard-core property that no grains overlap in the resulting germ‒grain model. A fundamental question is whether long-range dependence is preserved under such thinnings. To answer this question, we study four natural thinnings of a Poisson germ‒grain model where the grains are spheres with a regularly varying size distribution. We show that a thinning which favors large grains preserves the slow correlation decay of the original model, whereas a thinning which favors small grains does not. Our most interesting finding concerns the c…
