Mit Sauerstoff-Mikroelektroden werden die lokalen Werte des Sauerstoffpartialdruckes im Mikrobereich der Organe gemessen und graphisch als Haufigkeitsverteilungen (Histogramme) dargestellt. Theoretisch wird der Einfluss der Kapillaranordnung (Gleich-, Gegenstromsystem und Kapillarnetzwerk) auf die Haufigkeitsverteilung der P02 Werte untersucht. Die fur zweidimensionale Modelle durchgefuhrte Analyse zeigt, dass Unterschiede in der Durchblutung, wie sie in den einzelnen Zweigen der Kapillarnetzwerke auftreten, einen starken Einfluss auf die Histogramme haben.

The influence of oxytocine on the spontaneously contractile portal vein of the rat has been investigated. This octapeptide decreases the active tension and abolished it completely at a concentration of 5×10−7g/ml. The effect is not caused by an adrenergic mechanism but by a direct action on the smooth muscle cell.

The surface tension of supercooled water is of fundamental importance in physical chemistry and materials and atmospheric sciences. Controversy, however, exists over its temperature dependence in the supercooled regime, especially on the existence of the second inflection point (SIP). Here, we use molecular dynamics simulations of the SPC/E water model to study the surface tension of water (sigma(w)) as a function of temperature down to 198.15 K, and find a minimum point of surface excess entropy per unit area around approximate to 240-250 K. Isotropic-nematic interfacial tension of hard and soft rods: Application of advanced grand canonical biased-sampling techniques

Coexistence between the isotropic and the nematic phase in suspensions of rods is studied using grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations with a bias on the nematic order parameter. The biasing scheme makes it possible to estimate the interfacial tension gamma in systems of hard and soft rods. For hard rods with L/D=15, we obtain gamma ~ 1.4 kB T/L^2, with L the rod length, D the rod diameter, T the temperature, and kB the Boltzmann constant. This estimate is in good agreement with theoretical predictions, and the order of magnitude is consistent with experiments.
Positron Annihilation in Steel Samples Deformed by Uniaxial Tension

Angular distributions of the positron annihilation quanta were measured for steel ST2 SAL samples deformed by uniaxial tension up to difierent deformation degrees. The dependences of the S parameter on the relative elongation of the samples are presented. The positron annihilation data for steel are compared with the results obtained previously for polycrystalline iron samples deformed by uniaxial tension up to difierent deformation degrees in the proportionality and limited proportionality regions.

In a theoretical description of homogeneous nucleation one frequently assumes an "equilibrium" coexistence of a liquid droplet with surrounding vapor of a density exceeding that of a saturated vapor at bulk vapor-liquid two-phase coexistence. Thereby one ignores the caveat that in the thermodynamic limit, for which the vapor would be called supersaturated, such states will at best be metastable with finite lifetime, and thus not be well-defined within equilibrium statistical mechanics. Some information also has been reported on the interrelationship between neural input and mechanical output during submaximal concentric and eccentric contractions. The slope of the regression line representing the relationship between IEMG and muscle tension is greater when muscle shortens at a constant velocity than when it lengthens at the same velocity (Bigland and Lippold, 1954).
