Ergonomic Risks in the Printing Company and Workers’ Wellbeing

2014

The aim of the study was to analyze the ergonomic risks in the printing company and to study the impact of ergonomics risks on employees’ wellbeing. The study involved 67 company workers aged 18 to 67 years. In the study, physical load evaluation methods and questionnaire on welfare and psychoemotional risks at work, adopted by Swedish Environmental Research Institute, were used. It was proved that production workers were subjected to increased physical workload. At work they are exposed to physical pressure on hands, shoulders and back. The workload is more affected by the increase in work tension due to limited time of order execution. It was concluded that ergonomic risks partly affect e…

Offshore Wind Payload Transfer Using Flexible Mobile Crane

2015

This article presents an offshore-simulated loading and unloading of a payload from a floating platform to a fixed structure. The experiments are performed in a dry-lab, where a Stewart platform is used to simulate the motion of the vessel. A hydraulically actuated vehicle loader crane is used to perform the tasks of payload transfer. The crane includes a hydraulic winch where the wire force is measured by a load cell. A mathematical model of the winch is derived and is experimentally verified. The control strategies include a heave compensation and a constant tension mode. A motion reference unit is used to generate the reference motion of the moving platform. Experimental results show the…

Force Variations on Heave Compensating System for Ultra-Deepwater Drilling Risers

2010

This paper discusses modeling aspects related to dynamic analysis of deep water drilling risers. These risers must have a heave compensator that maintains a near constant tension in the riser independent on platform motions. Traditional riser analysis will apply constant top tension or a simple parametric model that may give approximate tension variation. The present paper describes an alternative analysis procedure that consists of the following step: • Global riser analysis including calculation of dynamic stroke of the heave compensator from platform motions and riser dynamics. A “pipe-in-pipe” approach is used to represent the hydraulic cylinders. • Calculation of dynamic tension variat…

EXTREMELY LOW FREQUENCY (50Hz) MAGNETIC FIELD INFLUENCES PHYSICO-CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF WATER

2019

The influence of 50 Hz sinusoidal magnetic field on physico-chemical properties of water was studied. Tanks with distilled water (120 mL) were individually exposed to action of homogenous 50 Hz magnetic fields, using a Helmholtz coils system. For magnetically exposure have been used different values of magnetic flux density (between 1 and 5 mT) and different durations of exposure (between 5 and 240 minutes). By means of this experimental study the physico-chemical properties of exposed water samples compared with the control ones have explored. Density, viscosity, surface tension, pH, oxygen concentration and electrical conductivity were recorded. Some physico-chemical parameters analyzed i…

Experimental and numerical study of anomalous thermocapillary convection in liquid gallium

1999

Thermocapillary Marangoni convection of liquid gallium was studied experimentally and numerically. A specially designed experimental setup ensured an oxide-free surface of the liquid gallium for a very long time. The convective flow at the free surface was found to be directed opposite to both buoyancy-driven and ordinary thermocapillary convection. The anomalous direction of the thermocapillary flow was explained by the presence of a small amount of a surface-active contaminant—lead adsorbed at the free surface. Two different approaches were used to describe the observed phenomenon. First, the flow was treated as a pure thermocapillary convection with a modified dependence of the surface t…

Engineering Polymer Microparticles by Droplet Microfluidics

2013

Capillary-based flow-focusing and co-flow microsystems were developed to produce sphere-like polymer microparticles of adjustable sizes in the range of 50 to 600 μm with a narrow size distribution (CV < 5%) and different morphologies (core-shell, janus, and capsules). Rod-like particles whose length was conveniently adjusted between 400 μm and few millimeters were also produced using the same microsystems. Influence of operating conditions (flow rate of the different fluid, microsystem characteristic dimensions, and design) as well as material parameters (viscosity of the different fluids and surface tension) was investigated. Empirical relationships were thus derived from experimental data…

Experimental studies on the detachment of multi-walled carbon nanotubes by a mobile liquid interface

2017

International audience; Retention and detachment of colloidal particles from surfaces is often considered only in terms of spontaneous chemical dispersion when the surface is already fully submerged. Nevertheless, interfacial processes, where the particles are caught on a mobile liquid contact line by capillary effects are ubiquitous. Theoretical description of such interfacial processes exist for spherical microcolloids, while for anisotropic shapes the literature is limited. Arc-discharge synthesized multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT) material contains besides the very anisotropic tubes also irregular amorphous carbon particles (ACP) that both are strongly hydrophobic. As a water–air–soli…

340 EPIGENETIC ANALYSIS OF DEVELOPMENTALLY IMPORTANT GENES IN BOVINE OOCYTES OF DIFFERENT ORIGINS

2010

A critical step in assisted reproductive technologies (ART) is the IVM of oocytes. The quality of the oocyte is crucial for successful fertilization and subsequent embryo development. Studies in bovine ART, and epidemiological studies in children from ART, reveal a degree of abnormal development thought to be primarily caused by aberrant DNA methylation patterns in imprinted and non-imprinted genes. Due to the inherent similarities in bovine and human preimplantation embryonic development, bovine oocyte and embryo development is increasingly being used as a model for human development. The goal of this project is to investigate the effects of specific IVM conditions on the DNA methylation …

Microscale Marangoni actuation: All-optical and all-electrical methods

2006

We present experimental results from an all-optical microfluidic platform that may be complimented by a thin film all-electrical network. Using these configurations we have studied the microfluidic convective flow systems of silicone oil, glycerol, and 1,3,5-trinitrotoluene on open surfaces through the production of surface tension gradients derived from thermal gradients. We show that sufficient localized thermal variation can be created utilizing surface plasmons and/or engaging individually addressable resistive thermal elements. Both studies manipulate fluids via Marangoni forces, each having their unique exploitable advantages. Surface plasmon excitation in metal foils are the driving …
