A Lexicon for Italian cinema: A conversation about history, theory and critique

This article represents the outcome of a round table organized and conducted by Giacomo Tagliani about the Lessico del cinema Italiano/Lexicon of Italian Cinema (2014–2016). This research and editorial project comprises three volumes and 21 entries that address the history of Italian cinema through an original and challenging approach, namely to detect a list of conceptual clusters able to provide new perspectives over the heritage of Italian films. The increasing production of biographical films dealing with power and its figures raises interesting questions about the nature and the aims of political cinema. What are the strategies used to represent people whose public image has completely overlapped to their identity? This matter concerns not only thematic aspects of the biopic genre, but more in depth it discloses fundamental issues at the basis of any theory of cinema. Abstract Our proposal raises the urgency to include the defense of sexual diversity in the curriculum of Art Education. We provide visibility mechanisms to sexual minorities in personal and social order, and propose an approach to the subject, especially in training teachers. Art as being not only exalted vision of the artist, is a subject to the whole series of dependences. Among them there are institutional and non-institutional factors. It is no different in the case of cinema. Within its field representation issues of a social group and its interests may cross. There we may encounter the political of the presented content, but also of the environment in which it arises. Therefore, the reflection on Polish cinema of the younger generation created by women seems reasonable. The purpose of these considerations is therefore examining its political face, both in terms of the content itself and the conditions of its formation.
