Dijets at Tevatron Cannot Constrain SMEFT Four-Quark Operators

2019

We explore the sensitivity of Tevatron data to heavy new physics effects in differential dijet production rates using the SMEFT in light of the fact that consistent and conservative constraints from the LHC cannot cover relatively low cutoff scales in the EFT. In contrast to the results quoted by the experimental collaborations and other groups, we find that, once consistency of the perturbation expansion is enforced and reasonable estimates of theoretical errors induced by the SMEFT series in $\frac{E}{\Lambda}$ are included, there is no potential to constrain four-quark contact interactions using Tevatron data. This shows the general difficulty of constraining physics model-independently …

B-physics computations from Nf=2 tmQCD

2013

We present an accurate lattice QCD computation of the b-quark mass, the B and Bs decay constants, the B-mixing bag-parameters for the full four-fermion operator basis, as well as estimates for \xi and f_{Bq}\sqrt{B_q} extrapolated to the continuum limit and the physical pion mass. We have used Nf = 2 dynamical quark gauge configurations at four values of the lattice spacing generated by ETMC. Extrapolation in the heavy quark mass from the charm to the bottom quark region has been carried out using ratios of physical quantities computed at nearby quark masses, having an exactly known infinite mass limit.

Effective Field Theories for heavy probes in a hot QCD plasma and in the early universe

2016

International audience; There are many interesting problems in heavy-ion collisions and in cosmology that involve the interaction of a heavy particle with a medium. An example is the dissociation of heavy quarkonium seen in heavy-ion collisions. This was believed to be due to the screening of chromoelectric fields that prevents the heavy quarks from binding, however in the last years several perturbative and lattice computations have pointed out to the possibility that dissociation is due to the finite lifetime of a quarkonium state inside the medium. Regarding cosmology, the study of the behavior of heavy Majorana neutrinos in a hot medium is important to understand if this model can expla…

Star-product approach to quantum field theory: The free scalar field

1990

The star-quantization of the free scalar field is developed by introducing an integral representation of the normal star-product. A formal connection between the Feynman path integral in the holomorphic representation and the star-exponential is established for the interacting scalar fields.

RELATIONSHIPS AND DIFFERENCES IN IMPLICITE INTELLIGENCE, PERCEIVED SOCIAL SUPPORT, AND PERCEIVED ACADEMIC SELF-EFFICACY AMONG COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL ST…

2020

The purpose of this study was to explore relationships of implicit intelligence, perceived social support and perceived academic self-efficacy and to identify how these factors influence academic achievements amongst youth, as well as implement adaption of the revised implicit theories of intelligence (self-theory) scale (De Castell & Byrne, 2015) in Latvia. The research was based on implicit intelligence, perceived social support and academical self-efficacy theories. Nowadays, a growing amount of attention is focused on the reasons driving the academic achievements, self-belief and cumulates conversations about the importance of a social support. According to other scientists’ notes, …

Monopoles and dualities in 3d N=2 quivers

2021

Seiberg-like dualities in 2+1d quiver gauge theories with 4 supercharges are investigated. We consider quivers made of various combinations of classical gauge groups U(N), Sp(N), SO(N) and SU(N). Our main focus is the mapping of the supersymmetric monopole operators across the dual theories. There is a simple general rule that encodes the mapping of the monopoles upon dualizing a single node. This rule dictates the mapping of all the monopoles which are not dressed by baryonic operators. We also study more general situations involving baryons and baryon-monopoles, focussing on three examples: SU−Sp, SO−SO and SO−Sp quivers.

Chinese Legal Theory and Human Rights. Rearticulating Marxism, Liberalism, and the Classical Legal Tradition

2019

Does the Chinese academic discourse on human rights differ from the official one as put forward by the Chinese government? How do Chinese legal theories justify the attribution of human rights and their protection through the law in the context of an authoritarian state? Do Chinese academic theorizations on rights and the law have any capacity to influence the wider public debate in China despite the ideological constraints and censorship imposed on academics by the party in power? In order to answer these questions, this book explores the theories of law and rights by contemporary Chinese legal scholars, paying particular attention to their views on the rule of law and the explanation of r…

Per una filosofia del diritto positivo alternativa al giuspositivismo

2022

The article discusses Francesco Viola’s new book, considered as a philosophy of positive law alternative to legal positivism. The starting point is the classification of his approach as characterized by the thesis of an interpretive connection of law and morals, evident in his itinerary through the three revivals of Natural law in the last century. This kind of connection – possibly shared both by many Natural theories and positivistic positions – leads coherently to the thesis of the conceptual connection, in which justice plays an important role in the con- cept of law. Finally, it is proposed a comment on his important distinction of epistemological, ontological and ideal approaches to t…

Perché le teorie liberali moderate non devono temere la behavioral economics o la heuristics and biases psychology

2021

In this article I will explain the content of soime cognitive bias and the content of liberal theories. I will argument that people commit less cognitive errors than Conly and others think. Secondly, some behaviours that Conly and others think are cognitive bias are not. Finally, it is clear in the studies of Kahneman and Tversky that the majority of cognitive bias are not incorrigibles (in the correct sense of this word)

Fenomenologia teorica e sperimentale e scienza della visione

2015

In this theoretical paper, the claim is defended that phenomenology of perception can be integrated into vision science. Different versions of theoretical and experimental phenomenology are presented to specify a minimal set of commitments. It is claimed that the phenomenological research into perception, be it delivered in the form of conceptual analysis or of experimental research, satisfies the epistemological and methodological substantive features of these commitments. As an empirical case for the contribution that the integration of phenomenology into vision science could bring about, the paper presents a received view in the visual neurosciences and the objections against its element…
