Traumatic arteriovenous fistula as consequence of TMJ arthroscopic surgery. A case report

2016

The ocurrence of a traumatic arteriovenous fistula after arthroscopic surgery of TMJ represents an extremely rare event. Specifically, this uncommon complication has been described only in a few case reports. In this light, the most frequent symptoms showed by this disease are thrills, bruits, pulsatile tinnitus, and an expansible vascular mass. Importantly, the severity of these symptoms is also dependent on the vessels involved. With regard to the management, is important to note that the vessel ligation with surgery as well as vessel emolization with endovascular procedures have been shown to be effective in the treatment of these cases. In view of that, the present study describes a cas…

Causes of Tinnitus: Cerebrovascular Diseases

2011

1. Tinnitus can be divided into two broad groups: objective and subjective tinnitus. 2. Several layers of complexity are involved in the pathophysiology and the cause of tinnitus, and it is rarely known what causes an individual’s tinnitus. 3. Disorders that affect the brain are often accompanied by tinnitus. 4. Cerebrovascular diseases can be the cause of both objective and subjective tinnitus. 5. This chapter discusses cerebrovascular diseases as a cause of tinnitus and how it is produced.

Lateralization Effects on Cerebral Blood Flow in Patients With Unilateral Pulsatile Tinnitus Measured With Arterial Spin Labeling

2020

Purpose: To investigate cerebral blood flow (CBF) differences in patients with left- and right-sided pulsatile tinnitus (LPT and RPT) and healthy controls (HCs) to further explore the lateralization effects of PT using arterial spin labeling (ASL). Methods: ASL data from 21 RPT patients, 17 LPT patients and 21 HCs were reviewed. Voxel-wise analysis and region of interest analysis were performed to explore differences in CBF among the three groups. Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) score and tinnitus duration were obtained from each patient. Results: Voxel-wise analysis showed that the CBF of the left inferior parietal gyrus was increased in both RPT and LPT patients compared with HCs (P < 0…

Diagnosis of Tinnitus: Neurological Examination

2011

1. There is an urgent need for a set of assessment methods to be agreed upon and utilized by the international tinnitus research community. 2. Neurological examination of tinnitus patients is essential to achieve a good diagnostic approach to the different forms of objective and subjective tinnitus. 3. This chapter summarizes the neurological examination in tinnitus, including the protocol used in the authors’ tinnitus clinic, which is based on the consensus of the Tinnitus Research Initiative (TRI).

Ferdinanda Erdmaņa Štolla kāpu tintenes akvareļi

2020

1925. gada jūnijā Baltijas dabaspētnieks Ferdinads Erdmanis Štolls (1874 – 1966) Garciema smilšu kāpās atklāja jaunu sēņu sugu, kam tika dots nosaukums Coprinus dunarum F. E. Stoll, latviski – kāpu tintene. Zinātnieks sēnes fiksēja un detalizēti aprakstīja. Atraduma fotouzņēmumi un akvareļi ir iekļauti viņa vairāk kā 1000 vienību lielajā F. E. Štolla sēņu attēlu kolekcijā, kuru pamatā veido F. E. Štolla zīmētie akvareļi, kas glabājas Latvijas Universitātes muzeja Botānikas un mikoloģijas kolekcijās.

Structure ofD-ribonic acid-dimethyltin(IV) in coordinating solvents: an experimental and DFT119Sn NMR study

2006

We have investigated a newly synthesized complex of D-ribonic acid with dimethyltin(IV). The structure of the complex in solution has been characterized by means of 1 H, 13 C, and 119 Sn NMR and by DFT calculations. The comparison of experimental and computational results allowed the determination of the stable conformation in solution as well as the detection of a dimerization process. Moreover, evidence is given of active coordination of the metal by the solvent.

Controlling Oxidative Addition and Reductive Elimination at Tin(I) via Hemi-Lability.

2021

We report on the synthesis of a distannyne supported by a pincer ligand bearing pendant amine donors that is capable of reversibly activating E–H bonds at one or both of the tin centres through dissociation of the hemi-labile N–Sn donor/acceptor interactions. This chemistry can be exploited to sequentially (and reversibly) assemble mixed-valence chains of tin atoms of the type ArSn{Sn(Ar)H} n SnAr ( n = 1, 2). The experimentally observed (decreasing) propensity towards chain growth with increasing chain length can be rationalized both thermodynamically and kinetically by the electron-withdrawing properties of the –Sn(Ar)H– backbone units generated via oxidative addition. peerReviewed

Rayleigh-instability-driven dewetting of thin Au and Ag films on indium-tin-oxide surface under nanosecond laser irradiations

2013

Investigations have been carried out on laser-beam-induced nanoparticle (NP) formation in thin (5 nm) Au and Ag films on indium-tin-oxide substrate. After the irradiation the films were observed to break-up into NPs through a dewetting mechanism. This mechanism was investigated as a Rayleigh-instability- driven process. In fact, for each used laser fluence, the resulting Au and Ag NPs' mean size and surface-to-surface mean distance were quantified and correlated between them in the framework of the Rayleigh-instability theory showing an excellent agreement. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology 2013.
