Il difficoltoso percorso del Piano paesaggistico siciliano
2020

Will Second Life Help Me Survive in Italy?
2010
This paper aims at sharing the experience we had in the design and implementation of a short pilot course of Italian in Second Life® (SL). The paper will provide a description of the course mentioning preliminary findings, discussed in relation to the theories adopted by the two researchers. The paper is the result of the course, La Lingua in gioco: dire, fare e giocare in SL, that had a strong focus on the development of Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) and Oral Language Proficiency and was aimed at a group of third-level Irish students of Italian in the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), who will spend the third year of their degree in Italy (Erasmus programme). SL was used…
The “Journal of Functional Morphology and Kinesiology” Journal Club Series: Highlights on Recent Papers in Corrective Exercise
2020
We are glad to introduce the Journal Club of Volume Five, fourth Issue. This edition is focused on relevant studies published in the last few years in the field of corrective exercise, chosen by our Editorial Board members and their colleagues. We hope to stimulate your curiosity in this field and to share a passion for sport with you, seen also from the scientific point of view. The Editorial Board members wish you an inspiring lecture.
Evaluating Safety Systems for Machine Tools with Computer Numerical Control using Analytic Hierarchy Process
2019
Computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools are complex production systems with fully automatic machine parts. Nowadays, high feed rates and machining speeds are used during the machining process. Human operators are still needed to set-up the machine, load/unload workpieces and parts, load the machining code, and supervise the machining process. The operators work in an environment where automated high-speed motions occur, and consequently, CNC machine tools have to be equipped with safety systems. The approach presented in this paper was to evaluate the main safety systems of CNC machine tools based upon the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The analyzed systems were divided into six m…
SCIROCCO tool to support knowledge transfer in integrated care
2019
Background: Knowledge transfer has been well recognised as an effective enabler to access existing evidence and learning on integrated care. It requires dedicated support to ensure that the flow of appropriate information and knowledge between adopting and transferring entities is tailored appropriately to the context and maturity of the adopting system. SCIROCCO is an online participatory tool that helps stakeholders to understand: 1) The context requirements of a particular good practice that is considered for adoption; 2) The level of maturity required for a health and social care system to adopt and scale up integrated care; 3) The actions that more progressive regions have taken to be …
Crop Nitrogen Retrieval Methods for Simulated Sentinel-2 Data Using In-Field Spectrometer Data.
2021
Nitrogen (N) is one of the key nutrients supplied in agricultural production worldwide. Over-fertilization can have negative influences on the field and the regional level (e.g., agro-ecosystems). Remote sensing of the plant N of field crops presents a valuable tool for the monitoring of N flows in agro-ecosystems. Available data for validation of satellite-based remote sensing of N is scarce. Therefore, in this study, field spectrometer measurements were used to simulate data of the Sentinel-2 (S2) satellites developed for vegetation monitoring by the ESA. The prediction performance of normalized ratio indices (NRIs), random forest regression (RFR) and Gaussian processes regression (GPR) f…
Ergonomics of tools usage for video game localisation: a user survey
2021
This paper presents some of the results of two online surveys addressed to professionals working in localisation and video game testing, respectively. The aim is to analyse the ergonomics of CAT tools usage for game localisation by contrasting the data with current business practices and common linguistic bugs. The first survey, which received 620 complete answers from freelance and in-house professional localisers, was conceived to gather information about business practices as well as the tools they use in terms of project management software, terminology databases, specialised corpora, CAT tools, etc. The second survey received 550 complete answers and was addressed to linguistic testers…

Folate targeted coated SPIONs as efficient tool for MRI
2017
The development of more sensitive diagnostic tools allowing an early-stage and highly efficient medical imaging of tumors remains a challenge. Magnetic nanoparticles seem to be the contrast agents with the highest potential, if properly constructed. Therefore, in this study, hybrid magnetic nanoarchitectures were developed using a new amphiphilic inulin-based graft copolymer (INU-LAPEG-FA) as coating material for 10-nm spinel iron oxide (magnetite, Fe3O4) superparamagnetic nanoparticles (SPION). Folic acid (FA) covalently linked to the coating copolymer in order to be exposed onto the nanoparticle surface was chosen as the targeting agent because folate receptors are upregulated in many can…
