Summary Study aim: To determine the reliability and validity of a time domain heart rate variability (HRV) index during free-living physical activity (FLPA). Material and methods: Eight white-collar workers participated in this study. RR intervals (time between consecutive R-peaks of the PQRS complex) were recorded using the Polar V800 heart rate (HR) monitor upon awakening and at work on 16 different days. A total of 127 cycles of sitting periods followed by walking breaks were included for consecutive pairwise analysis for reliability. Microsatellite analysis of the population structure in Phytophthora nicotianae

Nine validated SSRs were designed and used to characterize 268 isolates from a broad range of hosts and geographic localities. A total of 129 multilocus genotypes (MLG) were identified with markers showing polymorphisms ranging from 4 (locus P2039) to 24 alleles (locus 1509). Analyses revealed a preferential clonal reproduction in field orchards while sexual reproduction seemed to be more diffused in nurseries. A strong association between genetic groups and host of recovery was revealed for most isolates although this association was less evident for isolates from nurseries. Isolation and characterization of microsatellite markers in the liver fluke (Fasciola hepatica)

PRIMER NOTE; International audience; Six microsatellite markers were isolated from Fasciola hepatica, a re-emerging parasite that causes important veterinary and public health problems. In a sample of 52 liver flukes from a region of hyperendemicity (Bolivian Altiplano), five microsatellite were polymorphic. Our results showed that liver flukes present important genetic variability, suggesting a preferential outcrossing reproduction mode for this hermaphroditic parasite.

Partial Information Decomposition of Brain-Heart Interactions in Temporal Lobe Epilepsy in the Childhood
We apply information decomposition methods to elicit unique, redundant and synergistic causal contributions of ipsilateral and contralateral EEG activity to heart rate dynamics in epileptic children. We find that information flows from brain to heart according to opposite lateralization effects for the delta and alpha rhythms, suggesting that different neuroautonomic mechanisms take place in the pre- and post-ictal phases of temporal lobe seizures.
Seasonality of intra-specific cell size in the phytoplankton of Lake Kinneret

A distinct pattern of seasonal fluctuations in intra-specific cell size and/or colony size was observed in a large number of phytoplankton species from Lake Kinneret, Israel. The same species showed larger cell size or colony size in late winter and smaller size in late summer, with intermediate sizes in the interim periods. This phenomenon was exhibited by species of chlorophytes, dinoflagellates and cyanobacteria that were abundant enough to be sampled (fortnightly) and measured throughout the year.
