The specificity of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in reducing coronary vascular resistance: A comparison with adenosine.

1978

Experiments were performed on the isolated, electrically driven guinea-pig heart, perfused at constant rate. All animals were pretreated with reserpine. Myocardial contractile force (MCF), coronary perfusion pressure (CPP) and myocardial oxygen consumption (QO2) were monitored continuously. Both adenosine (ADO) and PGE2 produced a concentration-dependent decrease in the CPP. The ED50 (50% of maximum response) was 2.1 +/- 0.6 X 10(-9)M for PGE2 but 40 +/- 7 X 10(-9)M for ADO (P less than 0.01) at 1.8 mM Ca(e). This coronary vasodilation was independent of the external Ca-concentration, which was varied between 0.55-9.0 mM. PGE2 had no effect on MCF or QO2 and the effect of ADO was only sligh…

AT1-receptor blockade with irbesartan improves peripheral but not coronary endothelial dysfunction in patients with stable coronary artery disease

2007

Activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system plays an important role in the pathogenesis of endothelial dysfunction and atherosclerosis. Studies evaluating the effect of AT1-receptor blockers on endothelial dysfunction in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) revealed mixed results. Studies addressing the effects of AT1-receptor blockers on the coronary and peripheral function in the same study population, are still lacking. We therefore aimed to test the effects of long-term therapy with the AT1-receptor blocker irbesartan (IRB) on both, the coronary and peripheral endothelial function in patients with CAD. Seventy-two patients with CAD were randomly assigned to double-blin…

The neuropeptide calcitonin gene-related peptide differently modulates proliferation and differentiation of smooth muscle cells in culture depending …

2001

Abstract Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a neuropeptide present around vasculature very early during development, when smooth muscle cells (SMC) are still proliferating and not yet totally differentiated. We investigated the effects of CGRP on proliferation and differentiation of SMC in culture; 10 −7 M CGRP added in the medium of cultured smooth muscle cells every 2 days did not significantly changed cells growth rate in 1% FCS. At the opposite, this treatment modulated proliferation of cells grown in 10% FCS medium. Two distinct populations of SMC with different growth rates were obtained from our primary cultures. SMC which proliferated slowly in the presence of 10% fetal calf …

Chest pain due to late huge coronary pseudoaneurysm following stent implantation

2011

A 50-year-old man was referred to our hospital because of persistent atypical chest pain. His past medical history was remarkable for a non ST elevation myocardial infarction, treated five months previously with PCI on the right coronary artery. Two months later, for chest pain, he underwent coronary angiography that showed a right coronary artery with slight ectasia near the stent. Five months later for the persistence of atypical chest pain he came to our clinic. Chest CT showed a 31.5 mm hematoma of the right coronary artery. Coronary angiography revealed a giant aneurysm, proximal to the stent. In the light of rapid growth of aneurysm, the risk of rupture and symptoms, we decided to tre…

Preliminary communication: imiquimod in mixed capillary/lymphatic malformation.

2008

:  The present authors reported a 14-year-old white boy who visited the present authors’ dermatology department in January 2004. Physical examination revealed multiple translucent and hemorrhagic vesicles and skin-colored nodules on the chin. The lesion had grown slowly in size over the previous 7 years. The objective of this study is to estimate the exact mechanism of action of topical imiquimod on mixed capillary/lymphatic malformation. After 4 weeks of therapy the lesions were less protuberant. At the follow-up examination after a further 2 months of therapy, there was partial clinical regression of the capillary component with a return to normal skin color. One month after termination o…

Definitions and Clinical Trial Design Principles for Coronary Artery Chronic Total Occlusion Therapies: CTO-ARC Consensus Recommendations.

2021

Over the past 2 decades, chronic total occlusion (CTO) percutaneous coronary intervention has developed into its own subspecialty of interventional cardiology. Dedicated terminology, techniques, devices, courses, and training programs have enabled progressive advancements. However, only a few randomized trials have been performed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of CTO percutaneous coronary intervention. Moreover, several published observational studies have shown conflicting data. Part of the paucity of clinical data stems from the fact that prior studies have been suboptimally designed and performed. The absence of standardized end points and the discrepancy in definitions also prevent…

The association between coronary microvascular dysfunction and carotid intima media thickness in patients with cardiac syndrome X

2016

Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate in patients with cardiac syndrome X (CSX), using validated angiography indices, coronary blood flow and myocardial perfusion of the microcirculation to assess whether there is greater microvascular dysfunction in patients with increase of carotid intima media thickness (C-IMT), compared to those who do not have. Methods Our study was performed on a population 124 patients with CSX that underwent coronary angiography and carotid ultrasound. We divided the sample into two categories: patients with increase of C-IMT and those without increase. We calculated Gibson and Yusuf indices for each patient based on angiographic images, including…

Fetuin-A is Associated to Serum Calcium and AHSG T256S Genotype but Not to Coronary Artery Calcification

2015

Vascular calcification has been recently associated to an increased cardiovascular risk and mortality. In few studies, Fetuin-A showed an association to coronary artery calcification (CAC), although the physiopathological mechanism underlying this association has not been fully established yet. Seventy-four patients with one or more cardiovascular risk factor and asymptomatic for coronary vasculopathy were included in the study. CAC was evaluated by Agatston score. Serum Fetuin-A levels were determined by ELISA. Molecular analysis of AHSG T256S gene variant (rs4918) was performed by PCR-RFLP. Serum Fetuin-A was correlated to serum calcium (r = 0,321; P = 0,018), but not to serum phosphorous…
