Event-based encoding from digital magnetic compass and ultrasonic distance sensor for navigation in mobile systems

2016

Event-based encoding reduces the amount of generated data while keeping relevant information in the measured magnitude. While this encoding is mostly associated with spiking neuromorphic systems, it can be used in a broad spectrum of tasks. The extension of event-based data representation to other sensors would provide advantages related to bandwidth reduction, lower computing requirements, increased processing speed and data processing. This work describes two event-based encoding procedures (magnitude-event and rate-event) for two sensors widely used in industry, especially for navigation in mobile systems: digital magnetic compass and ultrasonic distance sensor. Encoded data meet Address…

EHRtemporalVariability

2020

Functions to delineate temporal dataset shifts in Electronic Health Records through the projection and visualization of dissimilarities among data temporal batches. This is done through the estimation of data statistical distributions over time and their projection in non-parametric statistical manifolds, uncovering the patterns of the data latent temporal variability. EHRtemporalVariability is particularly suitable for multi-modal data and categorical variables with a high number of values, common features of biomedical data where traditional statistical process control or time-series methods may not be appropriate. EHRtemporalVariability allows you to explore and identify dataset shifts t…

A Selective Change Driven System for High-Speed Motion Analysis.

2016

Vision-based sensing algorithms are computationally-demanding tasks due to the large amount of data acquired and processed. Visual sensors deliver much information, even if data are redundant, and do not give any additional information. A Selective Change Driven (SCD) sensing system is based on a sensor that delivers, ordered by the magnitude of its change, only those pixels that have changed most since the last read-out. This allows the information stream to be adjusted to the computation capabilities. Following this strategy, a new SCD processing architecture for high-speed motion analysis, based on processing pixels instead of full frames, has been developed and implemented into a Field …

Evaluation of the ARCore Indoor Localization Technology

2020

Augmented reality has become a very powerful tool nowadays. With the recent technological advance, smartphones have the ability to display augmented content on the screen. What makes the difference is the naturalness with which the multimedia content is superimposed over the video stream acquired with the phone's camera. This perfect overlay depends on the accurate estimation of the position and orientation of the smartphone's camera relative to the 3D representation of the space. ARCore is an augmented reality framework that computes the position and orientation of the smartphone. In order to assess the possibility of integrating ARCore within a virtual and augmented reality platform, we e…

Analysis of Lipid Experiments (ALEX): A Software Framework for Analysis of High-Resolution Shotgun Lipidomics Data

2013

Global lipidomics analysis across large sample sizes produces high-content datasets that require dedicated software tools supporting lipid identification and quantification, efficient data management and lipidome visualization. Here we present a novel software-based platform for streamlined data processing, management and visualization of shotgun lipidomics data acquired using high-resolution Orbitrap mass spectrometry. The platform features the ALEX framework designed for automated identification and export of lipid species intensity directly from proprietary mass spectral data files, and an auxiliary workflow using database exploration tools for integration of sample information, computat…

Detalizēto (drill-down) atskaišu moduļa izstrāde sistēmai ProIS

2018

Assessment of the Entropy of Spatial and Time Distributions of Rooms Daylighting: A Possible Tool for a Sustainable Design

2015

The indoor visual comfort of subjects faced with indoor ambient lighting varies with the position of the subject and is not constant over time. Average performance indexes, such as the mean value of Daylight Factor and Daylight Autonomy, are commonly used to analyse lighting distribution. These indexes, however, don’t properly take into account either the spatial or the time distribution of values affecting the non-uniformity of environmental lighting. Indeed, these are limited to the definition of a mean value or to the assessment of time availability of daylighting. This paper examines spatial and temporal non-uniformities in indoor lighting as possible causes of discomfort for occupants.…

Sequential Effects of Phonological Priming in Visual Word Recognition

2005

International audience; Two masked priming experiments were conducted to examine phonological priming of bisyllabic words in French, and in particular, whether it operates sequentially or in parallel. Bisyllabic target words were primed by pseudowords that shared either the first or the second phonological syllable of the target. Overlap of the first syllable only-not the second-produced facilitation in both the lexical decision and the naming tasks. These findings suggest that, for polysyllabic words, phonological codes are computed sequentially during silent reading and reading aloud.

Decolonial Thinking and Refugees’ Stories. The Queens of Syria Documentary (2014)

2019

As an important stimulus for the international mushrooming of artistic creativity in public spaces, counter narratives by displaced people are contributing to the reframing of the political and sociolinguistic contemporary framework, where migrant identities are fighting to gain a voice. A counter wave of audiovisual productions based on aesthetic discourse has emerged within territories that seem to be losing their humanity with respect to migration issues, and seem to publicly reinforce forms of spectacularisation. Against a backdrop of international political conflict, where migrants and dispossessed refugees are nameless and cannot speak, visual and performative arts have taken on a dec…

Microstorie di design siciliano

2020
