Reading development subtypes and their early characteristics.

The present findings are drawn from the Jyväskylä Longitudinal Study of Dyslexia (JLD), in which approximately 100 children with familial risk of dyslexia and 100 control children have been followed from birth. In this paper we report data on the reading development of the JLD children and their classmates, a total of 1,750 children from four measurement points during the first two school years. In the total sample, we examined whether heterogeneous developmental paths can be identified based on profiles of word recognition and reading comprehension. [Postural balance following stroke: towards a disadvantage of the right brain-damaged hemisphere].

International audience; In the light of studies published in the last ten years, we have suspected a differential influence of the sides of hemispheric cerebral lesions on posture and balance. A study was aimed at verifying this hypothesis, the method of which being original because many possible confounding factors such as age, sex as well as topography and size of the brain lesion have been taken into account in the statistical analysis. Inclusion criteria were: right-handed patients, first stroke, no previous disease which might have affected balance. Ønsket med denne formidlingen var å vekke kunstinteressen hos publikum og undersøke om dette kan være et medium som kan bidra til økt museumsbesøk. Prosjektet har tatt utgangspunkt i fire verk som er malt av den norske kunstneren Reidar Aulie. Qualitative differences in the exploration of upright and upside-down faces in four-month-old infants : An eye-movement study

The goal of this study was to test if apprentice readers (6-7 to 7-8 years old) and beginner readers (8-9 to 10-11 years old) perceive syllabic units in written words. The paradigm of illusory conjunctions was used because it can determine the infra-lexical units identified at the first steps of the written stimuli process. Two experiments were conducted on children from the first (6-7 years old) to the last years (10-11 years old) of the learning-to-read process. Error Detection and Response Adjustment in Youth With Mild Spastic Cerebral Palsy

This study evaluated the brain activation state during error making in youth with mild spastic cerebral palsy and a peer control group while carrying out a stimulus recognition task. The key question was whether patients were detecting their own errors and subsequently improving their performance in a future trial. Findings indicated that error responses of the group with cerebral palsy were associated with weak motor preparation, as indexed by the amplitude of the late contingent negative variation.
