Detection of Bacterial Endophytes in Vitis vinifera L. and Antibiotic Activity against Grapevine Fungal Pathogens

2016

This chapter presents the results of studies conducted to (i) detect and localize endophytic bacteria in symptomless and symptomatic leaf tissues of grapevine (Vitis vinifera) using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) in combination with confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM); and (ii) test the antagonistic activity of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens AG1, previously isolated from grape wood affected by the esca syndrome, against grapevine fungal pathogens: Alternaria alternata, obtained from grapevine leaves showing necrotic concentric spots; Aspergillus carbonarius, A. ochraceus and Penicillium verrucosum, isolated from grapes affected by secondary rot; Botrytis cinerea, isolated from …

2023

Chronic venous disease (CVD) is an often underestimated inflammatory pathological condition that can have a serious impact on quality of life. Many therapies have been proposed to deal with CVD, but unfortunately the symptoms recur with increasing frequency and intensity as soon as treatments are stopped. Previous studies have shown that the common inflammatory transcription factor AP-1 (activator protein-1) and nuclear factor kappa-activated B-cell light chain enhancer (NF-kB) play key roles in the initiation and progression of this vascular dysfunction. The aim of this research was to develop a herbal product that acts simultaneously on different aspects of CVD-related inflammation. Based…

Integrated Bayesian Approaches Shed Light on the Dissemination Routes of the Eurasian Grapevine Germplasm

2021

The domestication and spreading of grapevine as well as the gene flow history had been described in many studies. We used a high-quality 7k SNP dataset of 1,038 Eurasian grape varieties with unique profiles to assess the population genetic diversity, structure, and relatedness, and to infer the most likely migration events. Comparisons of putative scenarios of gene flow throughout Europe from Caucasus helped to fit the more reliable migration routes around the Mediterranean Basin. Approximate Bayesian computation (ABC) approach made possible to provide a response to several questions so far remaining unsolved. Firstly, the assessment of genetic diversity and population structure within a we…

Effects of postharvest partial dehydration and prolonged treatments with ethylene on transcript profiling in skins of wine grape berries.

2010

For certain food products, postharvest controlled stresses or treatments with specific elicitors are applied to induce desired physical/chemical changes and/or to positively affect phytochemical content. This is the case of wine grapes where both strategies, singularly applied or coupled, can be used to modulate berry composition and, as a consequence, affect wine quality traits. Since the knowledge of the effects of these postharvest treatments on berry metabolism and the regulation of gene expression is very limited, a large-scale transcriptome analysis has been carried out, using an oligo-based microarray (14,562 probes) on skins of wine grape (Vitis vinifera L.) berries subjected to deh…

DETERMINATION OF YLOID IN SOIL AND GRAPEVINE SYSTEMS (Vitis vinifera L.) BY ICP-MS TECHNIQUE: A HOPEFUL PROXY FOR THE GEOGRAPHICAL CHARACTERIZATION O…

2012

In recent years identification of the geographical origin of food has acquired very importance because consumers are more and more interested in knowing the provenance of the food purchased and/or eaten. The knowledge of a chemistry relationship between the soil and the agricultural products is an important tool for the quality assessment of food. Metal cations onto particle surface of soil changing the environmental conditions can be mobilized and therefore to became bioavailable. In particular the chemical behavior of YLOID (Y, La and Lanthanoid) was studied to evaluate and trace the distribution from soil to roots, leaves to the grape in Vitis vinifera L. In a first study YLOID, present …
