Is the Spectacled WarblerSylvia conspicillataexpanding northward because of climate warming?

Capsule The Spectacled Warbler shows a strictly Mediterranean distribution which is expected to expand northward in response to climate warming. To test this hypothesis, we defined the regular distribution of the species based on the literature and we tested whether: (1) spring temperatures in this area significantly increased between 1967 and 2010; (2) breeding attempts north of the regular range occurred progressively at northern latitudes. Both of these hypotheses were confirmed, supporting the hypothesis that the species is expanding northward because of climate warming.

Foreseeable global warming will differentially affect Chara vulgaris populations from different altitudes

Abstract A 2–4 °C increase in temperature is foreseen for the Mediterranean region by the end of the 21st century due to climate change. This warming is expected to occur as heat waves, and will be particularly important for shallow water bodies which are the main freshwater ecosystems in the Mediterranean. We subjected four populations of Chara vulgaris to a common garden experiment. Each population came from locations at different altitudes, hence living at different mean temperatures. Abstract Modern mosaic cameras have grown both in size and in number of sensors. The required volume of sensor testing and characterization has grown accordingly. For camera projects as large as the LSST, test automation becomes a necessity. A CCD testing and characterization laboratory was built and is in operation for the LSST project. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, public discourse has been characterized by a massive use of war metaphors. At the same time, this use has been harshly attacked as inappropriate and potentially dangerous. The article proposes a reflection on this debate by questioning the demonization of the war metaphor. Indeed, the appropriateness and the efficacy of a metaphor are not absolute values but depend on many factors such as context, audience and communicative purposes. Ranking drivers of global carbon and energy fluxes over land

The accurate estimation of carbon and heat fluxes at global scale is paramount for future policy decisions in the context of global climate change. This paper analyzes the relative relevance of potential remote sensing and meteorological drivers of global carbon and energy fluxes over land. The study is done in an indirect way via upscaling both Gross Primary Production (GPP) and latent energy (LE) using Gaussian Process regression (GPR). In summary, GPR is successfully compared to multivariate linear regression (RMSE gain of +4.17% in GPP and +7.63% in LE) and kernel ridge regression (+2.91% in GPP and +3.07% in LE). Estimating Verdoorn law for Italian firms and regions

In empirical regional economics, returns to scale are typically estimated at the regional level in search for evidence on alternative theories of growth and agglomeration. However, returns to scale may also have a firm-level dimension. In this paper, we exploit micro level data and estimate the dynamic Verdoorn law in a multilevel-setting, where returns to scale are obtained simultaneously for the micro and the regional level. Determining the indicators of social capital theory to social network sites

The authors theoretical research provided a framework to define and measure social capital in social network sites. This paper determining with a qualitative method the theoretical dimensions of this framework. The result of this paper is the explanation of social capital theory in social network sites under the consideration of the identified indicators. The sample for this case is students, and the research needs further confirmation by other samples and methods. But this paper gives a first interesting insight in social network sites explained with the social capital theory and provides a first guidance for further research projects.
