A composite indicator for water meter replacement in an urban distribution network
2012
In water supply management, volumetric water meter are typically used to measure users' consumption. With water meters, utilities can collect useful data for billing, assess the water balance of the system, and identify failures in the network, water theft and anomalous user behaviour. Despite their importance, these instruments are characterised by intrinsic errors that cause so-called apparent losses. The complexity of the physical phenomena associated with metering errors in aging water meters does not allow meter replacement to be guided by single parameters, such as the meter age or the total volume passed through the meter. This paper presents a meter replacement strategy based on a c…
Mono and Stereoscopic Image Analysis for Detecting the Transverse Profile of Worn-Out Rails
2012
AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to suggest a new procedure for reconstructing the transverse profile of rails in operation by means of image-processing technique. This methodological approach is based on the “information” contained in high-resolution photographic images of tracks and on specific algorithms which allow to obtain the exact geometric profile of the rails and therefore to measure the state of the rail-head extrados wear. The analyses and the results concern rails taken from railway lines under upgrading by means of mono- and stereoscopic methods which are appropriate to be employed in laboratory applications or in high-efficiency surveys in situ.
Performance Measurement Framework with Formal Indicator Definitions
2011
Definition of appropriate measures of organization’s performance should be conducted in a systematic way. In this paper the performance measurement and indicators are discussed not only from the side of management models, but also from the point of view of measurement theories to find out appropriate definitions. In our work we propose a formal specification of indicators. The principles of indicator reformulation from free form indicators to formal requirements are formulated and applied in several examples from performance measures database. The formally defined indicators could be used in the proposed performance measurement framework that covers five-step indicator lifecycle.
Die Wirkung funktionaler, emotionaler und relationaler Nutzendimensionen auf die Markenloyalität
2005
Drawing on existing marketing literature three dimensions of utility are suggested: functional, emotional and relational. It is argued that the importance of these dimensions vary over time. In the early phase of the product life cycle, the functional utility is crucial for the success in the market place. Over time the emotional and relational dimension become more and more important. An empircial study carried out in the telecom industry provides evidence that this shift of importance actually takes place. The managerial implication is twofold. Firstly, the value proposition needs to be adapted in order to meet customer expectations. Secondly, an organizational change is necessary to be a…
Ideas in the History of Nano/Miniaturization and (Quantum) Simulators: Feynman, Education and Research Reorientation in Translational Science
2015
Cultural history of nanominiaturization, computing, quantum computing and simulating is necessary to comprehend human character and place it in the whole of living beings. Ideas in the history of physics by Feynman, etc. are valued by the questions that generate. A series of questions, answers and hypothesis introduces the nature of the history of nanominiaturization, providing facts. Nanotechnology adds a third dimension to the periodic table of the elements. Thinking about computers was useful. It must do with learning computers possibilities and physics potential. Provisional conclusions follow. (1) Nature (space–time) is not classical but discrete; quantization is a different kind of ma…
Warehouse threats and loss prevention management in case of fire
2016
Abstract Warehouses play an important role when it comes to the reception, delivery and storage of various types of goods. Due to the complex scenarios that may occur, as well as the heterogeneous nature of goods, warehouses bear a higher risk of accidents. Regardless if we’re taking about removing hassle or standardizing operations we speak the same language: insuring efficiency and increased efficiency leads to smart cost maintenances. In the article hear by we will observe the behavior of different warehouse materials in the case of trigger fired. Starting from the results obtained during the low scale tests and completing the premises with the large scale experiment (warehouse scale), w…
The Area Of The Strait Reading Theories And Strategies For A Metropolitan Dimension
2016
Abstract Extending across a peninsular strip going from Gioia Tauro to Melito Porto Salvo on the Calabrian side, and from Milazzo to Giardini Naxos on the Sicilian side, the Strait of Sicily sees theAspromonte massif and the Peloritani mountain range as two facing stage sets of land sketching in the gulf a water piazza of a landscaping room. Described in the proposal by Giuseppe and Alberto Samona, Ludovico Quaroni, Antonio Quistelli, Sergio Musmeci, Paolo D’Orsi Villani and Leonardo Urbani, it outlines, in the county seats of Reggio Calabria and Messina, the prevalence of a Euclidean space, identifiable in the exact metrics given by the recurrence of the measuring step of the blocks drawn …
Are Farmers in Alternative Food Networks Social Entrepreneurs? Evidence from a Behavioral Approach
2015
Social entrepreneurship, individual activities with a social objective, is used in this study as a conceptual tool for empirically examining farmers’ participation in alternative food networks (AFNs). This study verifies whether their participation is driven by the social entrepreneurship dimension to satisfy social and environmental needs. We develop a more inclusive view of how social entrepreneurship is present among farmers participating in AFNs by using a behavioural approach based on three main psychological constructs: attitude, objective, and behaviour. The empirical results show that two types of farmers participate in AFNs. One type is closer to commercial entrepreneurs; the main …
Ethical Entrepreneurship Training. Theoretical Reflection and Case Analysis
2014
Abstract In this paper we first reflect on the theoretical foundation of ethical entrepreneurship training in the field of economy. In this sense, we try to establish briefly the theoretical and historical assumptions of ethical entrepreneurship, especially from a review of the work of Adam Smith, professor of Moral Philosophy and central figure in the birth of the modern economy. We then present a definition of entrepreneurial activity, which is closely linked to a social and ethical dimension of economy and to the internal goods of economic activity. On the basis of these considerations, we propose some objectives of training for ethical entrepreneurship. Finally, we present a case study …
Born entrepreneurs? : Adolescents’ personality characteristics and entrepreneurship in adulthood
2017
Is there an entrepreneurial personality, and does it appear early in life? We provide a new answer to this important question by examining traits related to Type A behavior (Aggression, Leadership, Responsibility, and Eagerness-Energy) measured during adolescence and their relationship to entrepreneurship propensity in adulthood. The results indicate that the early-life Leadership dimension is significantly associated with a higher likelihood of 1) becoming an entrepreneur and 2) being more successful as an entrepreneur, as approximated by sales. peerReviewed
