Intellectual engagements of accounting academics: The ‘forecasted losses' intervention

This paper explores the social and political potential of accounting scholarship, presenting and discussing an intellectual intervention challenging a legislative reform that significantly affected Spanish industrial relations. In this reform, an accounting artifact (forecasted losses) played an unexpected role and was misrepresented, prompting a sizeable number of scholars to sign two manifestos in 2010 and 2012 against the use of forecasted losses made by the new legislation. Contract Renewal in Urban Water Services, Incumbent Advantage, and Market Concentration

Contract renewal with the incumbent is common practice in the contracting-out of public services. It could, however, affect competition by reinforcing trends towards market concentration. This article contributes empirical evidence on the determinants of the result of public tenders for the renewal of private provision of the urban water service. A dataset with information on 215 public tenders held in Spain between 2008 and 2019 is employed. The methodology is grounded in logistic regression techniques. Este trabajo pretende contribuir al conocimiento existente sobre el proceso de creación de cooperativas de trabajo asociado (CTA) a partir de la aplicación de un método inductivo-deductivo como es la Teoría Fundamentada. Para ello se han realizado un total de 37 entrevistas en profundidad con los socios-promotores de CTA creadas en el periodo 2001-2002, todas ellas localizadas en la Comunidad Valenciana (España). Mind Your Space! Desk Sharing Working Environments and Employee Commitment in Austria

This paper empirically examines the influence of desk sharing on the various forms of employee commitment. Previous literature has examined the influence of innovative workspace on employee satisfaction as well as the possible the benefits and disadvantages of desk sharing, but not the influence desk sharing may have on employee commitment. Our study examines the level of commitment in organisations that apply desk sharing compared to those with traditional office settings, finding that desk sharing does not necessarily have a negative influence on commitment.
