Effect of partial replacement of meat by carrot on physicochemical properties and fatty acid profile of fresh turkey sausages: a chemometric approach

2020

BACKGROUND This study evaluated the modification of physicochemical characteristics and fatty acid composition of fresh turkey sausages manufactured including carrot (Daucus carota L.) as a vegetable source (i.e., 10%, 20% and 30%, w/w). RESULTS The results were compared with sausages used as controls (i.e., containing 100% turkey meat, w/w). Overall, significant differences were detected for all of the evaluated attributes. The inclusion of 20% and 30% carrot (w/w) in the sausages resulted in a reduction of the lipid content (by 5.42 and 5.26 g/100 g, respectively) and reduced energy value (-7.6%). The color parameters were strongly affected by the inclusion of carrot, recording a signific…

A case study of a precision fertilizer application task generation for wheat based on classified hyperspectral data from UAV combined with farm histo…

2013

Different remote sensing methods for detecting variations in agricultural fields have been studied in last two decades. There are already existing systems for planning and applying e.g. nitrogen fertilizers to the cereal crop fields. However, there are disadvantages such as high costs, adaptability, reliability, resolution aspects and final products dissemination. With an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) based airborne methods, data collection can be performed cost-efficiently with desired spatial and temporal resolutions, below clouds and under diverse weather conditions. A new Fabry-Perot interferometer based hyperspectral imaging technology implemented in an UAV has been introduced. In this…

Unsteady Separation for High Reynolds Numbers Navier-Stokes Solutions

2010

In this paper we compute the numerical solutions of Navier-Stokes equations in the case of the two dimensional disk impulsively started in a uniform back- ground flow. We shall solve the Navier-Stokes equations (for different Reynolds numbers ranging from 1.5 · 10^3 up to 10^5 ) with a fully spectral numerical scheme. We shall give a description of unsteady separation process in terms of large and small scale interactions acting over the flow. The beginning of these interactions will be linked to the topological change of the streamwise pressure gradient on the disk. Moreover we shall see how these stages of separation are related to the complex singularities of the solution. Infact the ana…

Urban environment and cognitive and motor function in children from four European birth cohorts

2021

[EN]Background: The urban environment may influence neurodevelopment from conception onwards, but there is no evaluation of the impact of multiple groups of exposures simultaneously. We investigated the association between early-life urban environment and cognitive and motor function in children. Methods: We used data from 5403 mother-child pairs from four population-based birth-cohorts (UK, France, Spain, and Greece). We estimated thirteen urban home exposures during pregnancy and childhood, including: built environment, natural spaces, and air pollution. Verbal, non-verbal, gross motor, and fine motor functions were assessed using validated tests at five years old. We ran adjusted multi-e…

Retrieval of vegetation height in rice fields using polarimetric SAR interferometry with TanDEM-X data

2017

This work presents for the first time a demonstration with satellite data of polarimetric SAR interferometry (PolInSAR) applied to the retrieval of vegetation height in rice fields. Three series of dual-pol interferometric SAR data acquired with large baselines (2–3 km) by the TanDEM-X system during its science phase (April–September 2015) are exploited. A novel inversion algorithm especially suited for rice fields cultivated in flooded soil is proposed and evaluated. The validation is carried out over three test sites located in geographically different areas: Sevilla (SW Spain), Valencia (E Spain), and Ipsala (W Turkey), in which different rice types are present. Results are obtained duri…

Assessment of genetically modified cotton GHB614 × T304‐40 × GHB119 for food and feed uses, import and processing under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 …

2018

International audience; The three-event stack cotton GHB614 x T304-40 x GHB119 was produced by conventional crossing to combine three single events, GHB614, T304-40 and GHB119. The genetically modified organisms (GMO) Panel previously assessed the three single cotton events and did not identify safety concerns. No new data on the single cotton events that could lead to modification of the original conclusions on their safety were identified. Based on the molecular, agronomic, phenotypic and compositional characteristics, the combination of the single cotton events and of the newly expressed proteins in the three-event stack cotton did not give rise to food and feed safety concern. The GMO P…

Part C notification (reference C/NL/13/01) from Suntory Holdings Limited for the import, distribution and retailing of carnation SHD-27531-4 cut flow…

2015

Requestor: European CommissionQuestion number: EFSA-Q-2015-00126; The Scientific Panel on Genetically Modified Organisms of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA GMO Panel) has evaluated the overall safety of genetically modified (GM) carnation SHD-27531-4 cut flowers to be imported into the European Union (EU) for ornamental use. The genetic modification results in the flowers having purple petals. The stability of the new colour trait was observed over multiple vegetative generations. The purple colour of the petals comes from the altered expression levels of anthocyanins, common pigments found in edible fruits and vegetables. Considering the intended use of the GM carnation and the po…

Ecological, morphological and genetic characterization of sympatric Haemonchus spp. parasites of domestic ruminants in Mauritania

1995

SUMMARYThe 4 species of ruminants (dromedary, zebu cattle, sheep and goat) in arid areas of Mauritania harboured Haemonchus spp. as the most frequent internal parasite. This was a rare situation where the 3 putative species, H. longistipes (dromedary), H. placet (zebu cattle) and H. contortus (sheep and goat) occurred sympatrically. The study was undertaken on hosts slaughtered at the Nouakchott abattoir, on the basis of monthly collection of worms. The environment was very unfavourable to H. placei and unfavourable to H. contortus, as intensity of infection remained low throughout the year, whereas infection in the dromedary was 10 to 20-fold higher. The survival strategies during the long…

Soil type and soil preparation influence vine development and grape composition through its impact on vine water and nitrogen status

2018

The influence of soil type and preparation on vine development and grape composition was investigated in a 50 ha estate located in Saint-Emilion (Bordeaux, France) and planted predominantly with Merlot. Part of the vineyard was planted down the slopes and another part of the vineyard was planted on terraces, where soils were profoundly modified through soil preparation. Grape composition (berry weight, sugar, total acidity, malic acid and pH), vigor (pruning weight), vine nitrogen status (Yeast Available Nitrogen (YAN) in grapes) and vine water status (δ13C) was measured at a very high density grid of 10 data points per hectare. Water deficit was globally weak over the estate because of hig…
