Plenoptic image watermarking to preserve copyright

2017

Common camera loses a huge amount of information obtainable from scene as it does not record the value of individual rays passing a point and it merely keeps the summation of intensities of all the rays passing a point. Plenoptic images can be exploited to provide a 3D representation of the scene and watermarking such images can be helpful to protect the ownership of these images. In this paper we propose a method for watermarking the plenoptic images to achieve this aim. The performance of the proposed method is validated by experimental results and a compromise is held between imperceptibility and robustness.

Active photonic crystals based on surface acoustic waves

2003

An active photonic crystal (PC) based on the modulation of a one-dimensional cavity resonator by electrically-generated surface acoustic waves is described. The high nonthermal population of surface modes combined with the enhanced Brillouin scattering in the cavity increases the intensity of the scattered light to values comparable to the excitation intensity. This process is employed to switch and modulate light beams in PCs.

Visual fields in a chloroquine treatment

2014

Purpose: In this study, we describe contrast sensitivity losses in the visual field of a patient affected by chloroquine toxicity, measured with stimuli favoring different visual mechanisms. We have compared these results with those of other, usual clinical tests. Methods: The vision of a patient who underwent ten years of chloroquine treatment was analyzed by a battery of clinical tests: visual acuity (VA), Amsler’s grid, Farnsworth–Munsell 100-hue test, spectral domain optical coherence tomography, multifocal electroretinogram (ERG), white-on-white and red-on-white Humphrey perimetries, chromatic and achromatic contrast sensitivity perimetry tests, and fluorescein angiography. Measurement…

Schematic eye models to mimic the behavior of the accommodating human eye

2018

A simplified version of the human eye is known as schematic eye model. Since the first attempts in the middle of the 19th century, numerous approaches describing new schematic eye models have been introduced. Some of them are able to describe the accommodation ability of the human eye. Accommodative schematic eyes could be of great interest since they are able to explain the functionality of the human eye and they can be easily used for different research purposes. Some of these include the design and testing of multifocal ophthalmic solutions, evaluation of the effect of optical aberrations on the retinal image quality, and study of the optical performance of the eye at different distances…

Effects of Temperature and Axial Strain on Four-Wave Mixing Parametric Frequencies in Microstructured Optical Fibers Pumped in the Normal Dispersion …

2014

A study of the effect of temperature and axial strain on the parametric wavelengths produced by four-wave mixing in microstructured optical fibers is presented. Degenerate four-wave mixing was generated in the fibers by pumping at normal dispersion, near the zero-dispersion wavelength, causing the appearance of two widely-spaced four-wave mixing spectral bands. Temperature changes, and/or axial strain applied to the fiber, affects the dispersion characteristics of the fiber, which can result in the shift of the parametric wavelengths. We show that the increase of temperature causes the signal and idler wavelengths to shift linearly towards shorter and longer wavelengths, respectively. For t…

Variations of OCT measurements corrected for the magnification effect according to axial length and refractive error in children

2018

Purpose: The aim of this paper was to examine the distribution of macular, retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness and optic disc parameters of myopic and hyperopic eyes in comparison with emmetropic control eyes and to investigate their variation according to axial length (AL) and spherical equivalent (SE) in healthy children. Methods: This study included 293 pairs of eyes of 293 children (145 boys and 148 girls), ranging in age from 6 to 17 years. Subjects were divided according to SE in control (emmetropia, 99 children), myopia (100 children) and hyperopia (94 children) groups and according to axial AL in 68 short ([Formula: see text]22.00[Formula: see text]mm, 68), medium (from [For…

Experimental evaluation of Fourier transform holograms by a self-interferometric technique

2022

We present a technique that combines an encoding method to display complex-valued holograms onto a phase-only spatial light modulator (SLM) with a phase-shifting interferometric (PSI) technique for experimentally evaluating the generated complex-valued optical fields. We demonstrate an efficient common-path polarization interferometer based on the SLM itself, not requiring any external additional element. The same setup can be used to simultaneously display the complex hologram and to apply the phase-shifting values required to retrieve the phase distribution of the optical field. A simple rotation of a polarizer allows to change from the intensity configuration to the interferometer config…

Off-axis Digital Holographic Microscopy: practical design parameters for operating at diffraction limit

2014

The utilization of microscope objectives (MOs) in digital holographic microscopy (DHM) has associated effects that are not present in conventional optical microscopy. The remaining phase curvature, which can ruin the quantitative phase imaging, is the most evident and analyzed. As phase imaging is considered, this interest has made possible the development of different methods of overcoming its undesired consequences. Additionally to the effects in phase imaging, there exist a set of less obvious conditions that have to be accounted for as MOs are utilized in DHM to achieve diffraction-limit operation. These conditions have to be considered even in the case in which only amplitude or intens…
